OK, let me get this straight (no pun intended): There are only so many marriages around, so gays being allowed to marry somehow means that straights cannot get as married as before (alternatively: Gays marrying too means some kind of “marriage inflation”, thus “devaluing” straight marriages).
On the other hand there is a fixed “amount of discrimination” and the fact that people are no longer allowed to discriminate against gays means that the discrimination will find a new target, and that is obviously Christianity.
Did I get that right?

Obviously discrimination is in a state of equilibrium. If you lower discrimination for some people, you have to raise it for others. If you make a certain kind of marriage legal, you have to make another kind illegal. It makes perfect sense, if you think about it.

So, anywhere and at any time such a move has been mooted, officials and politicians have gathered and asked themselves "What do we do? No, Christians were already protected by the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination in voter registration, public accommodation or employment based on race, color, religion , sex or national origin. Sexual orientation was left off that list. It still is. The pro-gay SCOTUS decisions applied to the government, not private industry.
