Let me say that i do believe that it is biblically justifiable (even in the New Covenant) to have heretics executed for their spiritual crimes against their neighbors.

I once snuck into my neighbor's house late one night and burgled his soul. (He never noticed and I continue to act towards him as if he has one--I don't want him suspecting.) I then sold his soul on eBay for $20, ten of which got me a discount indulgence from the Pope.
Now the death penalty for a simple theft? Absurd, I say!
Ironically, just prior to this post, another of the admins (TreyFROG is an admin, BTW) said that this position is not justified and that posts advocating the execution of heretics will be removed.

Treyfrog is right on the money:
1. What punishment does God mandate for anyone with a different religion?
Correct Answer: B. (Death of the nonbeliever (man and woman, great and small) and everyone in the community.) “He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the Lord only, he shall be utterly destroyed” (Exodus 22:20). “If thou shalt hear say . . . Certain men . . . saying, Let us go and serve other gods . . . Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword” (Deuteronomy 13:12-15). “That whosoever would not seek the Lord God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman” (2 Chronicles 15:13).
2. How did Jesus punish those with different religions?
Correct Answer: D. (All of the above.) “And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak . . . because thou believest not my words” (Luke 1:20). “And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost” (Acts 12:23). “But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me” (Luke 19:27).

i guess that's why i'm glad church and state were seperated centuries before my birth.
Honestly: "Treyfrog" is right. It is biblically justifiable to have heretics executed. But this says more about the bible than about whether it is justified to execute so-called "Heretics".
Thats the reason why we should NEVER use the bible (or any other so-called holy texts) as the basis of our judicial system . And it shows very clearly why the bible is a very bad basis for anybody who seeks ethical guidance.
So when Jesus told his followers to "Do to others as you would have them do to you." (Luke 6:31, NIV) he was just kidding.
Thanks for making that clear Treyfrog. I guess, like all good Christians, you know better than Jesus.

Why? How are we hurting them?
Just by existing. Religion has hijacked morality. An Atheist being good and decent is an affront to them. That Atheists can be decent people without fairy tales. is in itself, an attack upon their beliefs.
