[Responding to: "It's been about a month since 7-year-old Nixmary Brown was brutally murdered by her mother's boyfriend, Cesar Rodriguez, in a small NY apartment. Police say she weighed a mere 36 pounds at the time of her death and showed signs of chronic severe abuse. Police also found a chair with rope tied to it, suggesting that Nixmary was often restrained, as well as evidence that she was forced to use a pet litterbox as the only means to relieve herself. Police say she was severely beaten and repeatedly held underwater in a bathtub before being dealt a severe blow to the head which finally caused her death.
For the many Christians who often say that God regularly helps them and has intervened in their lives when they needed it most, how do you reconcile what God has done for you with what he didn't do for Nixmary Brown? Why didn't he help an innocent child who desperately needed it?"]
How do you know he didn't help her?

you all should read that thread. some of the responses from the christians are the sickest thing i've ever heard.
Adiya: "God is good, and He showed His love for little Nixmary, by freeing her from the wretched abuser that would have continued to damage her for years to come.
I praise Him for that.[bowing icon]"
if that's her idea of god 'being good' - well. i hate to see god when he's being bad.
There are some pretty terrible human beings posting on that thread.
My personal favorite:
"
My first point is that of it being a necessity (especially the suffering part), in order for us to know joy. It is similar to the basics of Yin and Yang. In order for us to experience joy, we must the opposite, which would be suffering. Without suffering, or even different degrees of joy, we can not know any different, so it would not be appreciated."
So Nixmary had to suffer such horrific abuse and die prematurely so that asshole can experience 'joy.' And we all know that loving Christians can't possibly sacrifice some personal joy to alleviate the suffering of others.
Sorry, you're only adding to the problem of evil.
This is one of those few situations in which, if I were physically present for this quote, the fundy would end up with a bloody lip.
There is no justification for torturing/killing an innocent child. None.
"There is no justification for torturing/killing an innocent child. None."
Ah, but this is one of god's specialties. Drown them, tear them apart with bears, kill all the first born males, etc etc.
One fundie (in my family) told me "God's ways are mysterious. I think he would know the 'heart' of the baby, and maybe killing them would prevent them from growing up and causing pain in the world".
Huh?

Wow, what a compassionate soul. Way to blame the victim there!
By that reasoning, since "God knew the heart" of the little girl and therefore allowed such tortures to happen to her, it is because she would have caused much greater suffering in the world eventually if she had grown up (the mind boggles at trying to conjure up anything that could possibly fulfill that notion).
Therefore, the people who humiliated, tortured, and killed this little girl should be congratulated for inflicting "just" punishments and snuffing out this little troublemaker before she got her big chance; even the precogs of "Minority Report" couldn't do this good a job.
Gad, the leaps of illogic here put gazelles to shame.

The fact that these people responding to this can so easily patronize the horror that Nixmary lived through is a testament to the true abomination that they call their "morality."
Things like this are absolutely disgusting, and equating her death to God "saving her" and their assumption that she is in "Heaven" is wicked in its own right.
"There is a science which has for its object only incomprehensible things. Unlike all others, it occupies itself but with things unseen. Hobbes calls it "the kingdom of darkness." In this land all obey laws opposed to those which men acknowledge in the world they inhabit. In this marvelous region light is but darkness, evidence becomes doubtful or false, the impossible becomes credible, reason is an unfaithful guide, and common sense changed into delirium. This science is named Theology, and this Theology is a continual insult to human reason."
I just found that here http://www.gutenberg.org/files/17607/17607-h/17607-h.htm
towards the beginning. It was first written in the 18th century. I find it interesting that we've been saying almost the exact same thing for about 200 years now.
How do I know? How do I KNOW?
Because she's DEAD, maybe? Or is it because she was BEATEN and STARVED throughout her short, miserable life?
How can ANY "loving" God justify doing that to his own children? How the hell can you gleefully sit there and praise him and spin this to make it out that that poor child is better off now?
>.< F*** YOU!
(Sorry, I really hate to hear of children suffering and I especially hate anyone who dares to say God helped in cases like this.)

God takes a page from the Dr. Doom (the Marvel comics villain, not the fundie board mod) playbook.
Minor Hero: I thought you said you'd be merciful if you gave you the plot relevant object of power?!?!
Supervillain: I shall show mercy... of a quick death!!! *shoots eyebeams/lightining/fireballs/atomic death ray at minor hero* Gullible fool. MWAhahahahah! HAHahahahahaha!
Minor Hero: Noooo!!! Aaaarghllll!!! Guurglle!!! (assorted dying sounds)!!!
Room314, the average 21st century person is a moron. The leaders of the Enlightenment would be quite disappointed that instead of progressing toward rational ideas about the universe, society has instead REgressed. More people - frighteningly YOUNG people - are filled with as much religious fervor as the soldiers sent off on the Crusades. The complete irrationality of these idiotic responses only serves to prove this.

I wonder why they call god good for killing and torturing this girl, yet they condemn killers in the same breath. I mean according to there logic, Osama Bin Laden killed more evil people then any can imagine, and did the world a favor, cause god was acting through him.
In this case, if god did allow it, then he is a sadistic asshole and why should anyone worship a sadistic asshole (no matter how powerful god is).
Even if god is real, people should just tell god to "fuck off".
Ozymandias: "Why is Bush on there? Bush hardly compares to those others-they were genocidal dictators. Bush is neither."
Well, 2300 U.S. troops and a conservative estimate of 30,000 Iraqui civilians is kind of wimpy in that kind of company, but I'd say, G.W. deserves an honorable mention at the least...
Ozymandias: "Why is Bush on there? Bush hardly compares to those others-they were genocidal dictators. Bush is neither."
Ozy, have you had a look at the Patriot Act lately? Your laudable civil rights are on the chopping block, all thanks to that chimp you have in the White House and his cronies.
"Those who would sacrifice essential liberties for a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." Benjamin Franklin
Osama, Pol Pot and Stalin never made a habit of invading other people's Sovereignity.
Neither did Pinochet, Mugabe, and 90% of the other tinpot dictators running around.
History will not judge him kindly. The only reason he's lasted as long as he had - apart from rampant ignorance in the public and gross censorship and spin, is he piggyback off 8 years of Democrat growth. He managed to annihilate this with interest in an amazingly short period of time.
He's done far more damage to the US than Osama ever could dream of.
Take one person off that list and it would be Osama.
When I first read this post (and the comments on the thread), I was reminded of this essay, but it's taken me a few days to track it down (I almost never bookmark things...). Anyway, I'm sure some of you are familiar with it, but if not, I recommend taking a look:

Mr . Turquoise
An all-powerful god who likes to play mind games, much like some of those craptastic excuses for "possible dates" do and doesn't get the definition of "help", or a universe with no god? I think i know which one most sane people would go for.
"How do you know he didn't help her?"
Gee, I dunno. Maybe her miserable, brief life and brutal murder.
What a heartless asshat! I sincerely hope you die in a fire.
