[On South Dakota's pending ban on abortion.]
listen- if this becomes a nationwide law, think of how many rapists will be deterred by thte thought that the women that they rape will HAVE to give birth, and the father can be easily identified by the babe's DNA??? this will prevent a lot of rapes. part of the reason why rapes r so common is the fact that abortions are legal, so nobody would know if they raped someone. now they dont have that option.

Not to mention that
1) Once the cell divides even once it has the full genetic code of the potential child.
2) A vaginal swab taken within a few hours of the rape collects semen. In most rapes there's no shortage of DNA evidence.
3) If using the baby's gene's is the way rapist get caught dosn't that actually translate to rape = 9 month headstart on driving to Mexico? (Or at least four if they use those big ass biopsy needles for a fetal tissue sample)
Imagine you're the kid born from the above scenario and learning that your dad is a rapist, he's serving life in jail and it was your gene sample that put him there. How fucked is that on a scale of one to totally fucked?
" think of how many rapists will be deterred by thte thought that the women that they rape will HAVE to give birth, and the father can be easily identified by the babe's DNA???"
Don't you ever watch Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, CSI, NCIS, or *any* television at all? Rapists can be identified via DNA found in the semen and/or pubic hairs they leave behind. Sometimes they even leave blood or skin (women scratch and hit back). That's why women need to get to a hospital to get a rape kit done ASAP and not take a shower or try to clean up in any way after a rape.

See above. You had better pray you are never raped because if you are I hope someone tells you, "Well if you get pregnant at least they will get to test your baby's DNA to catch the bastard!"
*grumbles and growls before biting her tongue before she goes off on a rant*
I've known people who are victims of incest and rape, and I'd dare you to say something like this to one of them...
"<<I hope emily is one of those kids who is actually like 11 or so and has lied about her age to gain myspace access.>>
(Dragon wrote): Probably not. Highschoolers are really, really dumb. Trust me on this one. That spelling is actually impressive for them."
Hey now, just because 98% of teenagers are your typical idiotic, half-illiterate, whining, Myspace-visiting fundies doesn't mean you have to generalize. If you're going to say "teenagers are stupid", then at least follow it with, "Except Bigfoot."
Something tells me that people who bother to break the law in the first place aren't worried about getting caught. That being said, this law would be irrelevant, since rapists are best identified via the methods previous commenters have described, without nine months head start at a getaway.
Oh, and I am (still) a teenager, (technically), and oppose the characterization of all teens as being similar to Emily. Will someone please inform me that my peers and I are not merely exceptions? I want to have faith in humanity, you know!

Sorry to break it to you, but basically all teenagers are exactly like everybody thinks. My classmates are the reason that I don't really like other people that much (especially people my age).
People are just stupid...Emily's response to fidning the DNA in sperm:
"1) exactly my point. if the girl had gone to the ER for a post-rape exam, she could have had all sperm (if any) extracted from her uterus. then, she would have no need to get pregnant. and if she didn't get the exam, thats her own stupidity.
2) a rapist could be wrongly convicted or could fight back, but if there is substantial DNA evidence, that leaves him no wriggle room; and the woman would not be harrassed for turning him in because it was a law that she had to have the baby, and therefore get him convicted via the babe's DNA.
3) you're right-abortion does not cause rape. but LEGAL abortion does- not entirely but its a factor. if you were a rapist, and u knew there was a possibility of the girl getting pregnant, and eventually you getting convicted, wouldn't you think twice??
-and ur right-misinformation is harmful, the fact is that less than 1% of abortions are performed because of rape. so why should abortion be legal in rape cases when in fact that rape is the smallest percentage of reason for abortions???"
Emily's greatest hits just keep on rolling...

I'm waiting for her to say something like "And if it's the woman's first time, she won't get pregnant anyway" or "All they have to do is pour coke-cola into her nethers and it'll kill all of the sperm" or even "If the rape victim rubs crocodile oil on the soles of her feet, it'll cancel out the pregnancy."
Peopl like smily are the reason North America needs better sex ed. classes. I can honestly say that I learned more about sex as a boy by staying up late to watch sex documentaries on the Discovery Channel than I did sitting through health class (Of course that could just be because I went to a Catholic school, but still).
Bigfoot sez: <<< Sorry to break it to you, but basically all teenagers are exactly like everybody thinks. My classmates are the reason that I don't really like other people that much (especially people my age). >>>
I told you not to tell me that! Now I've lost faith in humanity. My 20th birthday can't come soon enough.
I'm surprised at both sides on this about the whole DNA outlook. Yes it is true you have many other methods of getting DNA without directly testing the baby, but either way it doesn't prevent rapes. The main reason is due to the fact that unless your DNA is on file, there is no way of telling which person left the DNA. True, once you catch a suspect, it makes it easier to prove, but you still have to find the person legally and have him submit a DNA sample to match it to.
Abortion simply has nothing to do with rape cases. It is merely one option for the fallout of a rape. With or without abortion, rapes have, and will continue to happen.
Where do you get this stuff from?
Rapes will go down? Bullshit!
That's assuming that the rapist's DNA is on record. And I believe that less than 2% of the US population has been DNA profiles?
ANd since you can get DNA from semen or left begind hair samples, there's no need for women to go through the trauma of carrying to term the result of a violent rape.
Right, because rapists care so very much about children. Moral pinnacles of the community, rapists are. Yep, indeedy.
Criminals don't think, "Maybe I'll get caught." I heard an interview with a lifer in Louisiana who was on death row for a time at Angola State Prison. He said the death penalty isn't a deterrent because at the time, he wasn't thinking about what would happen if he got caught. Which may be why states with the death penalty don't have lower crime rates than those that don't, and why your pinheaded idea won't be a deterrent, either.
DNA does not work that way.
The residual semen and other regular DNA sources from a rape would be a better sample than anything from a baby, anyway. Those are all the rapist’s DNA. The baby’s DNA is only half-rapist.
I don't know about the real world, but in the hentai world banning abortion woould in fact encourge rapists since then they can inflict long term pain on their victims...
... then again, with people like you, the real world is becoming more like the hentai world.
Confused?
