\"Lent like most of Catholicism is a pagan import.\"
And therefore so is most of Christianity.
\"Want a big fat child molesting fertility God who has all the same letters in his name as Satan? See Santa.\"
Are you suggesting that Catholics believe in Santa? And that Santa is a once-a-year pedophile? WTF!
\"Want a pagan fertility Goddess whose worship involved temple prostitutes and pagan fertility symbols like bunnies and eggs, see easter.\"
Those \"pagan\" events were wonderful celebrations of life and love, healing and growth. Not that fire-brand, hell-bound, self-hating crap that many religions spew now.
\"Want a big evergreen tree as a sign of everlasting life by which you set offerings for your pagan priests see the christmas tree.\"
What's wrong with signs of everlasting life? And um, the cross? The dove? Jesus?!?
\"Some Catholic stuff is in the bible though.\"
No kidding? So is some pagan stuff!
\"Plus the worship of graven images, the stealing of scripture ('Satan comes to steal the Word') and other stuff. Remember observing lying vanities forsaketh your own mercy' and see New orleans for what happens to those practicing religious blasphemies and pagan abominations.\"
Most of that was babbling. Go back to your apocolyptic fear-mongering and leave the rest of the world alone please.

Whoh - so if this was intended to be a single paragraph, this guy is trying to say New Orleans happened because we like Christmas trees?
Clooooose! It happened because we like oil and destroyed the Louisiana Everglades which is a natural buffer to storm fronts...

And here _I_ thought Lent was a time of reflection, penitence, and preparation, like Advent. I also was under the impression that Lent was something of an attempt at following Jesus' stay in the wilderness (when he was tempted by Satan to turn rocks into bread and thereby have something to eat instead of just wandering around being hungry)...
But then I'm just a heathen Fringe Episcopalian, so I probably know even less/am more evil than Catholics. Heh.

Santa is not a fertility god, nor an exclusively Catholic myth. Hiding Easter eggs is not an exclusively Catholic tradition either. Nor is the Christmas tree. In fact, most of my Lutheran friends had all three.
(This guy does know that the Catholic Church was the root of all Christian churches and most of other denominations' practices are adapted from Catholicism, right?)

Well if we're gonna get technical about it, lets consider the Holy Family, by whom I mean Osiris, Isis, and Horus. They didn't have to flee into Egypt, they were indiginous. Near Eastern and Classical mythology is jam packed full of Gods born of Virgins; Gods who die and revive; Gods who descend to the Underworld to do battle with the ruler for one reason or another. Christainity is just one of those religions that goes through the Wal-Mart of history with its cart saying \"oooh I like that ritual I'll take it for the kids, or Herb'll like this communal meal\"

stop the press!
A fundy has discovered that Christianity stole stuff from pagan beliefs!
Anyone else waiting for them to put two and two together on this one?
