And why do some many non-Christians get married? I mean, marriage is an institution created by God. It shows up in the bible initially. There is no other evidence that it came from somehwhere else.

What the heck does "The Scottish Play" think people did in the various civilizations (e.g., Babylon, Egypt, China) during the many centuries before the biblical writings were collected, or even in which they weren't known for many centuries afterward? Does he *honestly* think there was no other culture that created such a custom?!?
This is another fine example of "breathtaking inanity." (Thank you, Judge Jones, for that wonderful phrase!)

Even if any of what you said had been thought through or researched, there is still an advantage to marriage in the form of taxes and insurance among other things. Since no real life-altering actions are taken, gettin married for financial reasons is not only sound for some, but is something that has happened for thousands of years, all over the world.
How is it possible that someone can spew three lines of stupidity and it takes ten times as much work to undo it?

Take your pick.
1)Marriage was around long before your god came into the picture via the feverish imaginations of ancient tribesmen who were determined to control their underlings.
2)Your god doesn't actually give a shit who gets married and if they kowtow to him in the process.
A real common belief in Fundieland, actual history means nothing to these people. Worse, when confronted with historical evidence (such as Pharohs having wives) they'll deny the validity of it, claim it historian deceit.

Or maybe it isn't. Marriage predates Judaism, after all.
If the only thing you read is the Bible, then you won't find any evidence for anything "somewhere else", stupid.
Dude, if you paid attention to Reality instead of a 2000 year old book of fairy tales, you'd know that every culture in human history has had marriage. The fact that you didn't know that shows how retarded you are.
And why do some many non-Christians get married?
Well, other religons have marriage customs.
And what about Atheists and Agnostics and Deists?
Well, they speak of this mysterious foreign concept known as "love".
And for clarity, chasing up the evidential example suggested by #1250968:
"Caesar and Calpurnia married in late 59 BC ... the third and last wife of Julius Caesar ... She did not remarry after the death of Caesar."

But since when has evidence ever mattered to fuckwit fundies?
Confused?
