Under ObamaCare this nurse would be charged with a federal crime! The liberals are working day and night to legislate Satan's morality.

Just look at the bias in this article. "a condition marked by high blood pressure that can lead to seizures or death if left untreated." Preeclampsia is a natural condition that affects 5% of births. The liberal medical establishment want to extinguish the life of 5% of ALL babies in this country! This just proves the importance of visiting Christian doctors. It's a very well known fact that very few, if any, mothers and babies die from preeclampsia. It's just another excuse the liberals use to kill another of God's precious babies!

Medical professionals know what's expected of them usually by the end of their first year of training, if they have a problem with it they should find another profession. If I ever learn that someone I love died over a medical workers religious beliefs there would be one hell of a lawsuit. Worshipping God doesn't give you the right to think you're God.

And just for the record, my very Catholic cousin was forced to abort for medical reasons once. A few months later, after she fully recovered, she was pregnant again and now has a beautiful, healthy, happy, much-loved little girl. A little girl that wouldn't be here if her mother had been forced to carry a baby that was not going to survive, and put it's mother's life at risk as well.

"Pro-Life" is anything but.

I would hope this is true; any health care provider who has religious objections to providing care should be forced out, and if their refusal to provide a service endangers a patient's life, that SHOULD be a crime.

However, without even looking this up, I'll bet fifty bucks you're lying, just like you right-wing idiots are lying to the senior citizens, telling them they'll be euthanized, just because coverage was proposed for them to have the OPTION to make an appointment with their doctors to discuss what end- of-life care they would like to have, so they can put a living will into place without having to pay for it, like they do now. The wording specifically states that they can have as much life extending care, or as little, as they want, and in fact it specifically PROHIBITS euthanasia, because it disallows anything that doesn't comply with local laws. Yet what do you tell them? "Obama wants to kill Grandma!!!"

Once again, you moronic puppets of the right-wing are doing exactly what they want you to do: Kicking and screaming against you own (and everybody else's) best interests. You idiots are going to be responsible for the death of the one real hope we've had in decades of getting universal health care, and this, of all the damage you've done to this country, is the most unforgiveable.

So, which is the more moral action (phrased from a fundie point of view)? Stand by and watch two people die, or help to save the life of one by sacrificing the other? If "thou shalt not kill" applies to the baby, why doesn't it apply to the mother as well? Doing nothing is a direct contribution to the death of two - yet that is somehow more immoral than contributing to the death of one to save another?

The nurse was in the wrong career. And by a fundie's standards, she's immoral either way: she'd be immoral for watching two people die instead of one, but she is immoral because she gave in and chose not stand by her faith and allow it to happen.

But instead, we'll talk about how it's the damned liberals' fault and throw in some anti-Obama sentiment while bullshitting and overlooking the fact that the real problem with this scenario is that the nurse was a fucking idiot for ignoring the fact that medicine sometimes requires abortions and triage. Something tells me she thought "I'll be a nurse, I can help people" and calmly dismissed the parts of her training that dealt with the fact that humanistic choices need to be made with little regard to Bronze Age mythology, because that didn't fit in with her happy little helping-others-is-Godly mentality.

If you are against abortions, you should probably not work as a nurse where abortions are performed. Nobody LIKES abortions, but they are sometimes the lesser of two evils.

High blood pressure and high amounts of protein in the urine are not good for you. As far as I understand it, the only cure is to remove the placenta, which means you have to deliver the baby (probably the more common thing to do) or abort the fetus, if it's not yet viable.

I read an interesting thing in Wikipedia:
There are studies made that say that if a woman has been living with her husband (ie having sex with him) for more than a year, the risk of pre-eclampsia is reduced. Less than four months together and the risk is higher. It's the exposure to the partners semen that is the issue. If the time of exposure is too short, she might in effect be "allergic" to the genes from the husband residing in the child.

Nobody WANTS to kill babies, but sometimes it's the lesser of two evils. (I feel like I've said this before.) Bringing a child into this world that you can't take care of is not beneficial to that child. The rates of abortions are diminishing, you dolt, not increasing! The better the conditions are for the women in a society, the fewer abortions are made.

Liberals are mostly Christian too, you know, and right-wing. How come the abortion rates (percentage of pregnancies ending in abortion) are fairly similar in the US (a country that has just been ruled by Republicans for eight years) and in Sweden (a rather secular and socialistic country)?

So, let's see here:

The woman in question was in week 22. That's the second trimester. Going by the Bible, a fetus doesn't count as a "life" until the third trimester. (As in, an assault on a pregnant woman during the third trimester requires extra monetary recompense in case of death/injury to the fetus; not that it's still not, Biblically, considered "murder" even then.)

So, by taking the position that a late-second-trimester abortion is "murder", "GodsChild" is being doubly anti-Biblical.

(...of course, the false-witness bit with regards to both Obama and "liberals" is a ten-commandments violation, which is even more fundamental...)

As much..."misunderstanding" as there is in that thread, at least one person does call GodsChild out on his/her BS:

My dear sister had this and they had to deliver the baby at 7 months (he's alive and 31). Her body was so swolen that one could not see ANY of her joints. She went into heart failure, had convulsions and other complications because of this.

My daughter did not swell up like my sister but did have preeclampsia and came extremely close to having a stroke, heart attack, even death. She came through it but oxygen was cut off to the baby because of the preeclampsia. For the most part, our granddaughter is a healthy girl very capable of learning but there are other problems that need to be looked into. We don't know if it was because of the lack of oxygen, yet.

Preeclampsia is an EXTREMELY serious complication. Today, medicine can deal with it successfully but it is STILL very serious...Sorry for the derailment of the thread. I just wanted to correct you on this as your statement is misleading. [hugging smiley] to you..."

And, to their credit a few people there actually ask "What is a Scriptural reference in this situation?" rather than just saying "Teh pwecious BABIEZ!!!"

And could a 5 1/2 month old fetus survive outside the womb? I would imagine that might be why they went for an abortian rather than C-Section then. (No medical knowledge to make an informed comment on it.) I thought the term "late term" refers to a fetus six months or longer along.
