How should we deal with Atheists who slander God?
In America, "freedom of speech" is sacrosanct.
But we still prosecute people for slander, libel,
perjury etc.
What about those who slander the Divine "Creator"
mentioned in the Declaration of Independence?
What about those who slander the God "in whom
we trust"?
As I see it, the penalty for this treasonous slander
can be only one thing: DEATH by firing squad.
But perhaps I am being a little harsh.
Would 1000 hours of community service or 5
years in jail wihout parole suffice?

You can't "slander" someone who is not affected by the alleged slander. Whether he is as we perceive him to be, or truly as you claim him to be, he would be unaffected by any claims we make of him, on merits of being omnipotent and/or non-existent. He would suffer for no reasons known to us for our dragging his good name through the mud.
So, your connection fails, and, as such, blasphemy remains just a feeble excuse for the religious to prosecute those who disagree with them.
i lol'd at Death by firing squad? couldn't you go for something a bit humane or easier?
& 5 years in jail/1000 hours community service seems a bit harsh, i'd say... Not even an afterthought. May as well punish someone for farting in a public place
People don't have a right to not be offended ;)
Perjury only applies to lies told in the courtroom.
Slander and libel only apply if
A) The victim chooses to press charges
and
B) The victim exists.
Perhaps we should send people to jail for calling the easter bunny a douche?

He'll have to seek legal counsel the same as anyone else. It would appear though that he either doesn't care or doesn't exist.

Ya think? Hammurabi had less harsh punishments for such infractions.

You're a bit... insane.

Um..are you a deist, retard?
I'll make you a deal, Coral Anus. If you can:
1. Locate me
and
2. Subdue me
....then you can kill me. My best advice to you is to bring a gun. Several guns. That way you've got a sporting chance.
Did I mention that I'm a paranoid manic-depressive and that I sleep roughly 2 hours a day on average?
Best of luck, f***er.
Corioanus have you thought this through? If God shows up for a libel trial, then he can be seized and tried under the Nuremburg statutes for war crimes for ordering the "death of every man, woman, and child" in Jerico and creating the "Great Flood" that murdered millions(No statute of limitations on ordering or causing "mass murders"). And the proof is right there in your Bible which you hold infallible.PS I am not an atheist, but I am an American and I hold our freedom of religion(or from religion, if that is one's choice) as far more important than your stupid attempts at insulting other peoples beliefs with your ugly "God is an American" bigotry.
I don't know much about the USA law, but I have heard many a time that your constitution guarantees every one of your citizens the freedom to say whatever they want, wherever they want. If you start killing people for not agreeing with you, then you can start calling your country a police state and wipe your ass with the constitution.

"We" don't do anything because "we" don't have legal standing to bring charges. You have to be directly harmed by the offense in order to have standing to sue. If God is offended, He can hire Alan Dershowitz and file suit in federal court like anyone else.

Defamation of Character is a civil offense, not a criminal one. The only remedies the plaintiff can seek are monetary damages and an injunction against the speech.
Does anyone else just hate it when fundies think they can talk law, or is it only me?
You're slandering Linus Torvalds by denying the obvious truth:
Linus created the universe.
Douchebag.
Besides, I don't get in trouble for slandering Bill Gates for taking everyone's money and giving them pathetic operating systems, or slandering Kent Hovind for making terrible arguments against atheism.
Yeah people who slander christianity should be put to death, but christians who slander other religions, who slander atheism, and slander everything with no Jesus in it is ok.
Prosecuting for "slander" against God would be like prosecuting for "slander" against Bigfoot. Neither one exists, therefore there's no slandering them, strictly speaking. Besides which, it can only be prosecuted if the slandered entity in question actually exists and decides to press charges him/her/itself.
Well the declaration of independence isn't law, the constitution is and they don't mention God in there.
And in god we trust wasn't added to money until the 1950s.
So basicully you got nothing.
1. Slander and Libel are both when someone says something untrue about someone else. If you state that the "FMG eats kittens" you would be wrong and I would be allowed to press the charge.
2. Sure, I will let you have the Death Penalty for this "Treasonous Slander". Or even your alternative.
3. The Declaration of Independance does not mention the Creator of YOUR religion. Brahma and Ametarasu would gain the same protection under your law. So you would be up for the chop first... By slandering OTHER POSSIBLE CREATORS.
4. But you would be safe, if you commit libel or slander against me, my neighbour or friends cannot bring the suite at me. Since its a civil matter. So unless God hired out a lawyer and turned up at court himself, he is not going to be able to "sue". I am pretty sure he won't turn up...
5. It will be a law we can laugh at.
As I see it, the penalty for this treasonous slander

Ok, the guy is destined for hell. And you want to send him there faster? What kind of christian are you?
For once, can you christians all start singing from the same page in the hymn book. For that matter, can you all start using the same hymn book? plzthx
Well, let's see your pussified non-existent blood god drag his sorry ass down here and file suit like any other asshole who has been libeled must do! Personally.
Two main possibilities exist to explain why he does not: 1. He doesn't exist. or 2. He doesn't care..
Option 1 seems way more likely.
How about you and your god both take a flying fuck at a flipping donut?
How about forced classes on the constitution for all fundies who suggest laws that go against everything this country was founded for?
"How should we deal with Atheists who slander God?"
You whine about it on a message board, that's what ya do. Bitch.
Someone tried to sue god. The case was thrown out.
Someone is trying to defend god in a slander case now. Interesting. It's almost as if Cornholio is trying to protect an impotent retard (himself...?) from the tides of reality, by threatening death upon scoffers.

Here's a direct quote from the Declaration of Independence - "...the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God..." Hmmm, Sounds kinda pagan to me.
But we still prosecute people for slander, libel,

Yes, but in order for that to happen the person would have to physically exist.

"thou shalt NOT kill."

I've read the bible before, and nowhere in it did Jesus come back and send the pharsees, the jews, the romans, Pilot, or any of his other tormenters to jail for 5 years.
Maybe I'm reading the wrong bible?
What about those who slander the God "in whom

Okay, as soon as God decides to press charges, legal action will ensue. 'Til then, siddown, and SHADDAP!
Prejury is lying in court. It has nothing to do with saying that your god is imaginary and that if he existed he'd be a fucking psychopath unworthy of worship.
Slander and libel only applies to entities who's existence can be proven. If your god feels slandered or libelled by anything anybody has said, he's welcome to personally press charges on that person.
Yap, I guess it's true. You really can offend omnipotent, all-seeing Eye of Sauron. And it will care enough to sue you.
I would like to be it's liar (ups, I've meant lawyer), though. The only question is who will pay for my services. I guess it will be the Only True Church (tm) but which one?
slander only applies to "ehem" ACTUAL BEINGS. To say that you don´t believe in their existence, is not slander. AND, the sentence was added in 1954, so I don´t think it´s "treason". Treason is doing something which may endanger the security of the country. Before opening your mouth, be sure you have one.
Hahahah!
"As I see it, the penalty for this treasonous slander
can be only one thing: DEATH by firing squad."
Since when has slander been punishable by, as you call it, DEATH?
When I talk about the Programmer of Eternity I am not talking about the God of the Bible.
When the founders of our Country were talking about a Creator they were also not talking about the God of the Bible.
Would 1000 hours of community service or 5

Aw, hell no. Crucifixion, burning at the stake and forever in the Lake-o'-Fire, still too good for them God slanderers.
Confused?
