My daughter is 7 years old (2nd grade) and attends a public grade school here in Washington State.
I was just informed tonight that my daughter was required to draw a picture of Obama in her art class today. My wife and I just found out tonight because my daughter was coloring a picture by herself and my wife just happen to ask what she was drawing, she said OBAMA. We asked her why and thats when she told us about her art class today. My wife and I looked at each other at the same time. To add to the insult, it is the wife of my daughters rec basketball coach.
Should I be as mad or disgusted as I am? I couldn't help but think some liberal was pushing their agenda on my kids. I can see maybe George Washington or Abraham Lincoln,.... but Obama!
Tell me I'm over reacting.

Of course, if McCain had won, and she was required to draw a picture of him, you'd have absolutely no problem.
Just admit you're pissed that the girl actually had to pick up her brown crayon. You're a sad, sad excuse for a human being.
Yes, you're over-reacting, you paranoid fool.
He's the current POTUS and, more importantly, he's a historic figure as the first person of color elected to this position in the U.S. This makes him an appropriate subject for class discussion and art and writing assignments in schools.
You lost; get over it.
And, while you're at it, re-read (or, more likely, read for the first time) Romans 13.
P.S. - Just remembered, when I was the age of this fundies' daughter, crayola crayons had a color called "Flesh" (or maybe "Fleshtone") which was kind of a pinkish/white color. That color name was discontinued some years ago when Crayola was finally convinced that not all flesh is pinko-white.
Meh. Maybe they should keep the politics in Social Studies.
Oh, and they didn't discontinue the crayon. They just call it "light peach" or something like that now.
If this was the year 2001, and your fuckboy Shrub had just been sworn in, your daughter's art teacher would have asked the class to draw a picture of *shudders at the all-to-painful memories* Bush. This, I suspect, you would be fine with. You know, because Bush had a mandate from gawd, to keep this country strong, keep the economy rolling along, and maintain our respected status worldwide, blah, blah, blah...
yeah, down with that uppity nigger
i'm sure same as you fuckers react to everything else, you won't ask why, just go with your daughters vague explanation, go off the handle and rag on the school board like a shark in chummed waters
Tell me I'm over reacting.
Overreacting? Nahhh!
You are just a bigoted racist assclown, nobody cares about your insane fantasies!
not very fundy actually, and maybe a bit odd to be drawing a politician in 2nd grade, but that's America for ya, what with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and all... and this was right after Inauguration and right before Black History Month, so it's not too weird.
and also, I wonder if some information didn't get garbled somewhere between what the teacher said and what you heard your daughter say.
We drew pictures of Ronald Reagan when he was freshly sworn in. I was in first grade. (They could have been pictures of our uncles or spiders for all anyone knew, really.) I don't think big wave would've objected to that. Nobody's parents objected to that, either, not even the lady who cried because Carter lost.
@ 937721: Yeah, it's "peach" now.
It was an art class not a social studies class. I don't think it was anything political. Just a bunch of little kids drawing the new President.
I agree, not really fundie, but very narrow minded.

They renamed the crayon. It's now peach...o_o`
You should know you are, teaching about the current president to young ones is only right.
For certain it's either because he's black or democrat or both
Yes, you are fucking overreacting. How dare them liberal public schools want the kids to draw a picture of our president. That's just fucking blasphemy, and breaking the second commandment, because we all know the only reason they're doing it is to worship it. Damn those liberals. Damn them to hell. Hey big wave, I have a suggestion. Learn proper grammar first and foremost. Then smoke some fucking weed and calm the fuck down.
I live in WA. At no time, in *any* art class, was I ever *required* to draw a political figure. Still-lifes, sure, but those are like, flowers and fruit and vases and shit. I smell BULLSHIT.
EDIT: @A mind far away -- LOL! I can give him the names of a few suppliers, even. (As long as I get a chunk for helping out, you know.)
Romans 13 ~ suck it up bitch.
Yes your over reacting, you don't think there were kids out there asked to draw Bush? He's the president, she drew the president, big fucking deal.
Is this guy in Spokane, by any chance? I saw a car with a rapture-related bumper sticker on it a couple of months ago. A lady was driving it, but he does say he has a wife.
Not really fundie, though. Stupid, but not fundie.
I remember having to color several pictures of various people who we had to know about in school. People who play big roles in history like presidents and MLK. Obama surely fits into that category as, hey, he is the president. It's not "pushing an agenda" to discuss a president in school. For young kids coloring is a way to familiarize them with someone they're learning about.
To the people who say this isn't "fundie" just read what else this person and other people have to say about Obama in that post. They don't just dislike Obama, but think he somehow is an affront to god and that people worship him instead of Jesus or wtfever.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
