My dad was talking about how somewhere in Arizona and places near it, there were petrified wood deposits that were up to 400 foot deep... he said "I wonder what kind of catastrophe could have caused that?" I said "Maybe it was the flood from the Bible." and then, my dad replied "When did that happen? Wasn't it two thousand years or so ago? Those deposits are millions of years old" I don't know...that's just something that bothers me. Scientists that study the Earth and things in it, they say things are millions of years old and then they "prove" that it is with carbon dating,...or whatever else they may use to study the age of the Earth and the things on it.
Now, honestly; I believe in a young earth...I know my dad believes in God, but obviously he doesn't take certain parts of the Bible as literal truth. Even if the Earth is millions of years old...that doesn't disprove God. It's just something that I think about...how would you explain petrified wood?
Sorry if my post is broad and I may have rambled a bit...
Thanks for reading...
God Bless.

"Even if the Earth is millions of years old...that doesn't disprove God"
And even if the Earth is five days old, that doesn't prove your god, although it would certainly challenge atheism quite a bit.

The most reasonable person on the site ever just for this line alone.
No problem Zerozx.
Merry Xmas to you Zerozx
And yet, if they were millions of years old, carbon dating would not be used.
Why can't fundies wrap their minds around the limits and abilities of carbon dating? Do they believe 14-C is the only radiometric isotope??
A YEC who seriously questions the science of things. I think he's on the right track, I just don't think he'll ever come to the logical conclusion, that his god is not real. But not fundy in the least, these are pretty good questions coming from a christian, especially for RR. I'll be surprised if they don't ban him for thinking such things, and condemn him to hell.

50 bucks he gets banned for this reasonable statement.
I fucking hate the Petrified Forest. I used to work on an environment corps crew (building fences and hiking trails). We were building a fence out there with improper supplies and materials (because the idiots at the station didn't give us the right stuff), in the searing heat, with not so much as a cactus to vary the view. Also, we worked sixteen hours one day. SIXTEEN HOURS! Building their stupid fence!
Yeah. I have nothing else to add, except that I fucking hate PeFo.
that sounded quite reasonable actually. there's probably a very inquisitive and smart person buried under all the brainwashing. i bet he's banned already.
I hope Zerozx gets the chance to have his questions answered honestly, rather than have his inquisitiveness stifled by some fundiebot

Holy shit, some sanity from a fundy. We are indeed in the very end times, yea, indeed, some here who read my posts shall live to see the Time of Floaty Square Bubbles.
Keep asking questions. Take nothing on faith and belief. Keep thinking, young man.
You'll find answers and more fascinating questions soon enough.
You don't use carbon dating for something millions of years old, because carbon-14 has a half-life of 6000ish years! It's not difficult, folks. That aside, this is quite a reasonable post. Rated it 2, and would have been 1 if not for that mistake.
"Even if the Earth is millions of years old...that doesn't disprove God."
Oooh. You're almost there. Keep questioning like this, and we may make a rationalist out of you yet.
"they say things are millions of years old and then they "prove" that it is with carbon dating"
"Now, honestly; I believe in a young earth"
Someone who thinks carbon dating works for millions of years has no beliefs worth listening to.
"It's just something that I think about...how would you explain petrified wood? "
are you new at this? those fancy dating methods accepted by every scientist of any credibility whatsoever are total horse shit, you dont actually need a reason for why they are. Just claim they are over and over, maybe throw in a link to AIG where they claim it over and over but wrap it in pseudo-scientific BS. The point is your right and proven facts be damned.
Zerozx seems like a nice kid to me. I rate this a 1, if that.
This is why I disapprove of creationism; not simply because it's factually wrong, but because creo religious leaders feeds lies to the people who trust then most. Then they leave them to wrestle with impossible contradictions whilst encouraging them to believe that the wrong choice of belief will damn them to eternal fire. Sad.
Keep asking questions Zerozx!
Somebody's going to get banned.
Edit: Yep, looks like he's gone. Damn heathen.
Hopefully he'll continue to question and look for answers. Keep going Zerozx, you're using your brain

Ok, let´s see your sanity here. If the Earth is million of years old and that doesn´t disprove God(good for your assertion), it´s million of years old. Your personal belief is irrelevant, like saying that you personally think that 2+2 is 6. Second, nowhere in the Bible says how old the Earth is. That is a stupid calculus made by some of your ilk based in some stupid presupositions of the lineages described in the Bible and so on, obssesed with the literacy of the Bible. If the age of the Earth doesn´t disprove God, enjoy it man.
I can't work out if Zerozx is trying to reconcile his or her belief in YEC, trying to find arguments to use on his or her father, or trying to actually broaden their knowledge.
All I can say is that if it's the last case, it's the wrong forum to try it.
Your dad sounds like a fairly educated guy. How did you end up so stupid?
You can't prove things are millions of years old with carbon dating, that only works for some 60 000 years or so.
You probably don't take certain parts of the bible as literal truth too, I bet. Have you sold everything you own and given the money to the poor yet? Do you shave your beard or cut your hair? Have you touched a menstruating woman?
Scientists have already explained petrified wood, silly.
Confused?
