(I love the irony in this one)
Right now we have her in a private school. I may not be keeping here there ... .
Just what are the ways to OPT OUT of Spanish?
Feel free to e-mail ne privately.
Unless you want an unskilled job with unskilled people, I'd highly recommend that Spanish and French and a few pther languages be avoided at all costs. It's waste of time. Those coming her that speak these language that want to GET AHEAD, LEARN ENGLISH and dare I say it ... ASSIMULATE!

Spanish is a great language to take if you want to get into business or travel anywhere, or in general, really. My younger sister is at Spanish immersion camp right now. If she succeeds there, she'll probably be able to get a job quite easily.
Yet many children in other countries learn to be bilingual or even trilingual with no problems. Why is it so horrible for American children to learn more than one language? If you're going to compete in a global economy, learning other languages is essential. And often, it's just plain good manners.

Yes, being multilingual is such a turn off to potential employers...
I took Latin and French at school (more years ago than I care to remember), and actually found the Latin useful: it provided an 'in' to a rough understanding of Spanish and Italian, even though I never learned them and can only speak a few (tourist) words of both.
My son has taken French, German and Spanish at school, and got on well with all three, although at the moment he's concentrating on the German.
And I too would have loved to have learned Japanese! I can understand the odd word here and there, but just don't have the time to sit down and learn it properly...
I guess because its sort of obvious, and a bit pointless and pedantic to comment on "ASSIMULATE(sic)" + "LEARN ENGLISH".
But, fuck! Both my next door neighbors are spanish and they speak better english than you!
This is going to end up on one of these sites, but oh well.
After America gets blown up (Which will eventually happened, every great civilisation falls), you're all going to have to learn Chinese or something like that because they'll be the new super power and then Chinese are going to complain about how stupid english people can't speak chinese and then you'll be really screwed.
By the way, feel free to come to Australia if you're American, we've got room and you know its imminent that somebody is going to screw you guys over some day.
I don't see the problem with learning other languages.
I am learning German and Spanish.
I like German better, though. More English-like. Probably because English is a "Germanic" language.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
