I find it funny how some of you non-believers insult christianity and christians but when it comes to christmas you want your christmas presents, christmas decorations, christmas tree and what not when you don't believe in CHRIST.
Does that even make sense, i hate it when when people don't believe in christ but celebrate christmas.
IF YOU DONT BELIEVE IN CHRIST then don't celebrate christmas!!!
Some people these days don't know the meaning of christmas anymore.
Anyway what are your views on this?

Christmas has more pagan roots than it does Christian ones. Jesus, if he was even a real person, wasn't born anywhere near December 25th. How about you start celebrating Christ's birthday in the spring, which is a lot closer to when he was actually born. Or, better yet, you could mind your own business, and I'll mind mine. I can celebrate whichever holidays I please.
* sigh *
freshrose_14, The word "Christmas" is only the English word for this particular festive time of the year.
In other more christian countries than your own, you know those with a cross in their flag, a state religion and a state church, the name of the season has nothing to do with Christ, even though those who are Christians have decided to celebrate their fantasy figure at the same time of the year as "Jul" (or in English 'Yule') is celebrated it is not a religious holiday.
But I guess you never learned about other countries in school?
We could explain to you over and over again how Christmas is but a hijacked pagan holiday, but you would just refuse to hear it. Anyway, it has lost most of its religious significance for many people, and is a purely secular holiday for many.
Aren't you guys supposed to stay away from pagan customs?
Go to church on Christmas and leave the trees, feasts and gifts for us heathens.
Judging from your name, you're what, 14 years old? So yeah, come back when you're old enough to have an opinion of your own.
@Chicago: "Santa > Jesus"
Indeed.
Y'know what Santa gives me if I'm bad? A lump of coal. Then, I get to try again next year. :P
You're the ones who aren't supposed to have Christmas trees. Haven't you ever read Jeremiah?
Oh, whom am I kidding? Of course they've never read their own holy book.
Hi freshrose_14, how are your teen spots doing?
To answer your question, we non-believers are picky (no pun intended). We join in the good things that you indulge in quite happily. Conversely, we stay well away from all the bigotry, hatred and hypocrisy that your lot indulge in.
Merry Xmas To freshrose_14 and all at Teen Spots.
You don't get to tell me what to do, and why would I not celebrate Christmas, after all I'm a "sinner", and Christmas is a fine excuse to engage in the sins of gluttony and greed.
Jeremiah 10:2 - 4
That's my view on this
Does that even make sense
If you had used proper puncuation, it might have.
Oh, wait. That's not what you meant, is it?
Christmas presents= Pagan (a camel through the eye of a needle ring any bells?)
Christmas tree= Pagan (imported from Germany to Britain in the mid 19th century, also condemned in the Bible)
Christmas decorations= pagan
Okay, we'll clebrate something else that also has gifts candy and it's on december 25
Decemberween, Decemberween, you're fifty-five days after Halloween.

Decemberween, Decemberween, you're fifty-five days after Halloween.

Hey, who the crap let Strong Sad out?
Decemberween, Decemberween, you're fifty-five days after Halloween!
I've got all types of crazy crap!

Decemberween, Decemberween
Coach Z's been drinking Listerine!
I don't want christmas anything. But I will take my Saturnalia presents, my pagan wreaths and mistletoe, my solstice yule tree, and "what not," all of which existed before Christ. kthx.
Despite the fact that Christians hijacked winter solstice many non christians continued to celebrate the old traditions. This is just proof you people don't own the holiday, all the practices you mentioned are pagan.
1850s,1910s, 1960s all had non christians celebrating the old way, without God or Jesus being romotely considered (well, maybe Aunt Beth, She's weird though, she insisted on an angel on the tree)
Christmas tree? You mean the Yule tree you stole from the pagans? Same with the presents and decorations. All pagan ideas incorporated into christianity in order to convert pagans. I hate to tell you this, freshrose, but you're a fucking idiot. That's not just my view. That's the honest truth.
"but when it comes to christmas you want your christmas presents, christmas decorations, christmas tree and what not when you don't believe in CHRIST."
I don't expect anything from you. I celebrate Christmas as a secular holiday.
"Does that even make sense, i hate it when when people don't believe in christ but celebrate christmas."
Well if you want to make a big deal, copyright it.
I'll start a Free-as-in-speech holiday.
"Anyway what are your views on this?"
I think Firefox just shit itself :( That's odd.
i hate it when when people don't believe in christ but celebrate christmas.
B...O...O...H...O...O
Piss off little girl. Your getting your knickers in a bunch when this is none of your fucking business. People can celebrate whatever holidays they want regardless of whether they believe in the religious origins or not.
According to scholars (and even astronomers), that 'guiding star' which heralded Christ's birth, appeared in June, in 2 BCE. So going by them, this is actually 2010 (pull your fingers out, builders & organisers of 2012's Olympics in London!), and you've missed Christmas.
It was the early Christian church who hijacked the old pagan winter festival, assimilating it into their own (as they had no culture, nor traditions of their own). Therefore it's YOU who don't have the right to celebrate Christmas! It's only for NON-Christians; Wiccans, Agnostics & Atheists. SO GTFO OUR traditions!
Celebrate? Eh, Christmas lost its charm to me when I was 'round five or six. Otherwise, it's bit silly. I'd rather be productive to society, ie perfecting my personal bacteriophage that targets cancer cells.
You know it was only recently that I totally left christanity, I was moving away for a few years but I only truly left when I moved out. So as this is my first christmas as a non-christian, would you beleive that I didn't have a tree up or infact I didn't do anything for it. I respected my dads christian beliefes and got him a present, and he got me one aswell, but that was only because of his views, me and my mum didn't get each other things as we are both non-christian. We had no tree, no dinner, and none of the rest of that junk. Infact I spent thw whole day doing an essay, so in light of that. You can go fuck yourself.
One: I hate it when people don't know the history of their holidays. Christmas was invented by the Catholics to help convert the people that celebrate Yule.
Two: Christmas has become a very secular holiday that focuses on a fat man in a red suit that gives them presents.
Among the Puritans (the founding group that seems to be closest to the modern fundamentalists' hearts) celebrating Xmas was a punishable offense. They knew of the holiday's Pagan roots. Apparently it is you who do not know the meaning of Christmas.
Besides, if you don't expect everyone to celebrate Christmas, why does your lot get so worked up when some one innocently says, "happy holidays?"
But I like giving gifts to and receiving gifts from the people who are special to me. What I buy my little sister and what my grandmother gets me are, quite frankly, none of Jesus's business. Especially considering that Christmas (originally called "Yule" if I'm not mistaken) is a highjacked Pagan festival celebrating the Winter Solstice.
I celebrate "Jul" not "Christmas".
What does Jesus have to do with fir trees, eggnog, gnomes, holly, hyacinth, poinsettia, mistletoe, rice puddings and snow?
IF YOU DONT BELIEVE IN CHRIST then don't celebrate christmas!!!
Some people these days don't know the meaning of christmas anymore.
I am a German, and in Germany we celebrate "Weihnachten" on December 24th - 26th.
"Weihnachten" translated means: "Sacred Night". No mention of "christ" here.
I just have a different opinion of "sacred" than christian fundies, and I have all rights in the world to celebrate sacredness, in my own style (which includes: Tranquility, Silentness, Thoughtfulness, Friendship, Peace). No Jesus necessary.
What about days' names that are rooted in paganism? Like Wodin's day, Thor's day, and Saturn day. Better not say those names, or you'll cross the Styx to Hades. On the bright side, Styx is a great band, so you'll have that for eternity.
I celebrate Xmas or Santa Day. Give and receive gifts, stuff yourself with food, watch tv.
Easter is Bunny Day, a celebration of the Godess. Christians had to nail their God to a stick to try and compete.
So lets add some of this up now,,,
The Bible says; Not to bring a tree in your house and decorate it, as the pagans do
The Bible, quoting Jesus says: Not to pray or praise God in public but to do it privately and not make a show of it.
So what do most good Fundamentalist do every year? The direct opposite.
Then you say we Atheists or non-Christians can't celebrate the winter solstice in our traditional way. Christians might as well thrown in the towel and admit they worship the God Hypocrisy.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
