Don't feel bad. Islam is not a religion. It is a political system that uses some theological terms and concepts in order to wield psychological power. It doesn't even begin to be internally consistent enough to be a religion, let alone a metaphysical system for explaining observable phenomena.

There you go, all fixed!
Hmmm. So, let's see if I have this straight:
Islam isn't a religion; it's a political system.
Christianity isn't a religion; it's a relationship.
Yet...
Evolution--a scientific principle that has nothing to do with any god, or indeed with anything supernatural--is a religion?!
Also, you have zero room to talk about religion being internally consistent. Shutting your eyes and plugging your ears won't make the mountain of Biblical inconsistency suddenly vanish.
Sorry, bud, but you chose your screen-name very poorly. Your argument has no teeth, and is less threatening than a six week-old puppy.
Hey buddy, you got the same disease as Mike in the post above this one.
No amount of idiotic prattling about the definition of a word, in the way that you do, is going to convince anybody, except for the most blinkered, tongue-lolling simpleton, that it doesn't mean what it always has.
Islam = the Muslim religion, and the people and countries who believe in it.

"Islam is not a religion. It is a political system that uses some theological terms and concepts in order to wield psychological power."
Sounds pretty much like a religion to me.
"It doesn't even begin to be internally consistent enough to be a religion, let alone a metaphysical system for explaining observable phenomena."
Internal consistency and ability to accurately explain observable phenomena are clearly not things required from a religion.
From Quran - 19: Mary
19:27 Then she brought him to her own folk, carrying him. They said: O Mary! Thou hast come with an amazing thing.
19:28 O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a wicked man nor was thy mother a harlot. Mary, the mother of Jesus, was the sister of Aaron. (Apparently, Muhammad confused Mary with Miriam.)
19:29 Then she pointed to him. They said: How can we talk to one who is in the cradle, a young boy ?
19:30 He spake: Lo! I am the slave of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet,
19:31 And hath made me blessed wheresoever I may be, and hath enjoined upon me prayer and almsgiving so long as I remain alive,
19:32 And (hath made me) dutiful toward her who bore me, and hath not made me arrogant, unblest.
19:33 Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive!
19:34 Such was Jesus, son of Mary: (this is) a statement of the truth concerning which they doubt.
19:35 It befitteth not (the Majesty of) Allah that He should take unto Himself a son. Glory be to Him! When He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only: Be! and it is.
Just one of many examples from the Quran showing how much it is based off on your own comic book hero, Jesus.
Hmm...A religion where God is considered intangible and singular, compared to one where he has multiple personalities and looks like someone's grandfather. I'd say there's some theological sophistication there, never mind just consistency.
Islam is a religion, it's just one that defines political and social norms for Muslims and Islamic nations as well as containing spirituality. And it's much, much more internall consistent than christianity. You should take a good look at your religion, and it's myriad contradictions and absurdities, before proclaiming the ones in others.
Edit:
To all those who noticed that christianity and Islam aren't religions, while atheism and evolution is, I wonder where that puts Buddhism...
We don't explain observable (that is, physical) phenomena with a "metaphysical system". What does that even mean? You need to hash that out with your religious cousins the Muslims, while the rest of the world just laughs at you both.
If Islam is not a religion, then neither is Christianity nor Judaism, as they all share same or similar dogma, and all have been used to wield politics and power.
Islam is just as "internally consistent" as Christianity is. Islam has two major branches (Sunni, Shia), Christianity has several (Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant, Anglican, etc).
Confused?
