Almost all Atheists I've seen act with blind hatred towards Christianity. I've never seen one criticize a religion deserving more scorn, like Islam or Bhuddism. Mainstream atheism is less about not believing in a deity, and more about bigotry towards solely Christians.

What makes one religion more deserving of scorn than another? And I've studied Buddhism...I dig Buddhists because they don't try to force their beliefs on anybody. They're some of the kindest, most compassionate people I've ever met. If it seems like atheists are bigoted toward Christians, it's simply because 1) there are more Christians around than Buddhists or Muslims and 2) because Christians are the ones who trash our way of life more than any other religion.
We don't believe in any religion's god or gods. That said, in the U. S. Christians predominate in the religious landscape, thus Christianity is the religion best known to us. (Although, as a rule, we know far more about other religions than you do.) And Christianity in the country is by far the loudest and most annoying religion. Still wonder why you're targeted?
Well wait till they read my book "religion, an unneccessary evil) they'll be in for a right shock as im going to be targeting every possible religion/cult (except buddhism, wicca and stuff like that as they are ways of life as oppose to deistic religions. yes i have a biggoted view of christianty because i was one years ago, but if they think islam and judaism are getting away with it they are sorely mistaken
All religions, and I mean all of them, are a crutch. No exceptions.
As Heinlein said:
A religion is sometime a source of happiness, and I would not deprive anyone of happiness. But it is a comfort appropriate for the weak, not for the strong. The great trouble with religion - any religion - is that a religionist, having accepted certain propositions by faith, cannot thereafter judge those propositions by evidence. One may bask at the warm fire of faith or choose to live in the bleak certainty of reason- but one cannot have both. [Robert A. Heinlein, from "Friday"]
There really aren't that many Muslims in America, so there is a very small amount of Muslim internet fundies. They exist, but there aren't that many of them. As for Buddhists, how are they more deserving of scorn than Christians? Buddhism does not condone slavery, promote warfare or call every other set of beliefs evil, unlike some religions we know.
never seen one criticize a religion deserving more scorn, like Islam or Bhuddism.
Buddhism?! I don't think you know what that religion is about. And the reason you think Islam should be criticized is because bigiots like you think they're all terrorists when it's only the minority.
When a Buddhist tries to pass a bill through Congress that promotes his or her religious beliefs against the will of the majority or against the Constitution, I will object. As far as I know, it is only Christians who exhibit such behavior.
Complete bullshit. It seems like to you that atheists attack christianity specifically because 1. you are a christian, and 2. the culture you are part of is largely christian. As an agnostic, I attack Islam whenever necessary. I will not, however, attack Buddhism, as there is no logical reason to attack it. There is nothing inherently wrong with it. Also, most Buddhists, at least in theory, are atheists.
There are a lot of Atheists out there that still have childhood wounds from Christian upbringings, so that may the ones your seeing.
As for the rest of us, well how would you know I was an atheist? And to really fuck with your little mind I'm an atheist and a Buddhist at the same time. I guess the fact that Buddhism sees debate as a way of increasing your knowledge, rather than blind obedience to your leaders. If I stump a Buddhist master, I'm just referred to another source, not told I'm sinful for thinking outside the box.
Not all atheists are like that. Though, I've seen one who slipped into that state before, and offended a friend because of it. I didn't think it was fair, but just because he was being a prick doesn't mean the rest are.
Buddhism deserve scorn.
HUH?
Oh Noes! the evils of Buddhism, all that meditating and tolerating other faiths, oh the ebil!
Gee why would atheists take issue with a religious group which seems bent on decrying their (atheists) inherit evil, and denouncing their views as the downfall of the West.
@ athiest crusader:
Who the hell are you? No true atheist spells the word the way you've spelled it in your username. Only fundies do that.
I think you are a third columnist for the true Xtians priming up for an attack on Islam and Judaism. But I'll wait until you put a question-mark randomly into the middle of a sentence before I'll know for sure.
fergus
a religion deserving more scorn, like Islam or Bhuddism.
Pretty soon they'll be driving around with bumper stickers that read "My God can beat up your God."
Almost all Fundies I've seen act with blind hatred towards Gays, Liberals, Pro-Choicers, Atheists etc. I've never seen one criticize certain groups of people deserving more scorn. Mainstream Xtian Fundyism is less about believing in a deity who preaches love & tolerance, and more about bigotry towards those who aren't like them.
Fixed
Sauce for the goose, and all that jazz.
>>a religion deserving more scorn, like Islam or Bhuddism
Why would buddhism deserve more scorn? Also, many atheists ARE buddhists, fucktard.
Agreed on Islam though. It is just as reproachable as christianity.
"Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again,
who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."
Romans 8:34
To be honest, this is a somewhat valid comment.
Way too many liberal athiests are terrified of critizing any non-Christian religion, especially Islam, out of a misplaced fear of being racist (yes against a religion...groan), cultralist - ("Native American beliefs are so awesome and in harmony with the planet man." - no they're bollocks) or just plain intimidation.
You can see that effect here sometimes whenever a non-Christian comment gets posted.
But... Buddhism is lovely. :(
Its not the religion I detest, so much as the idiots that flock to them. Idiots like this idiot.
u see, the difference between Buddhism and xtianity is that budhists dont try to convert me or else.
that being the case
fuck you christian fundies, ill never convert NEVAH I TEL YU
Mainstream atheism is less about not believing in a deity, and more about bigotry towards solely Christians.
The well-known blog "Daylight Atheism" has made an interesting experiment some weeks ago. He organized a "Turing Test", where a group of Atheists and Christians first answered an questionnaire defending Atheism, and afterwards defending christianity. So everybody was defending his real opinion, and was pretending the different opinion. Afterwards, there was a poll who is a generic adherent and who has feigned. This test was to investigate how good adherents of the different opinion can feign the other opinion, and how easily they can be spotted by external observers.
Interestingly, some christians who pretended to be atheists were much more easily to spot in this test than other faux-atheist christians. It were those christians who tried to pretend Atheism by attacking typical christian ideas and concepts.
"Rengar" here makes exactly the same error.
Atheism means = Lack of belief in any supernatural deity.
Atheism means NOT: Anti-Christianity.
Atheism equally rejects Thor, Allah, Vishnu as it rejects the judeo-christian god.
"Almost all Atheists I've seen act with blind hatred towards Christianity" tl;dr...
You play a MMORPG, Rengar. Your argument - nay your so-called 'opinion' - is invalid.
Buddhism! Le gasp! Those peaceful, tolerant BASTARDS! With their patience and kindness. It makes me SICK! Why aren't they full of hate like REAL Amurricans? :c
Tee hee, that was fun. ^^ Sarcasm can be fun.
Confused?
