THE IMPURITY OF NIDDAH
It is important to note that all unmarried women are considered to be in a state of menstrual impurity. The impurity of "niddah " (menstrual impurity) is one of the severest forms of spiritual uncleanness. The punishment for having relations with a woman considered niddah is "karet ," dying before one's time. Because of the great strength of niddah impurity, a man does not only become impure through having sexual relations with her, but also through intimacies like hugging and kissing.

Alright, genius, since all women start out unmarried and thus "impure", and you say it's immoral to even imply a sexual interest in such women, wouldn't it be easier to just be gay? Wait a moment, could that be the reason why fundies of this variety want women to cover themselves completely? It's not like a man in a burqa would look different from an identically dressed woman, right?
So in other words your god is a really shitty builder and planner. First he makes a woman, then he loses her, then he has to cobble together a new one using parts from the man, then he needlessly puts the most dangerous thing he possibly could in the garden without so much as a fence around it and now we find out that the Woman Mk. II is so faulty that she gives of an aura of spiritual decay like a rock from Bikini Atoll gives off radiation. And you asshats want us to worship this dumb, clumsy fuck... why, exactly?
So if a menstruating woman hugs a man, it will kill him before his time?
"Yeah, I'm on the rag, Tzvi. Give me a couple grand or I'll wrap my eeeeeeeeevil arms around you and make you die young!"
@passerby.
You've nailed it. The religious mind has an aversion to the idea of chance. If a large hailstone donged you on your young head and killed you, then God took you before your time. But on the other hand, the religious mind does not knock back a Lotto win.
This, I'm sorry to say, is what Orthodox Jews are supposed to believe.
However, most posters misunderstand the meaning of "spiritual impurity." In Judaism, spiritual impurity happens to everyone and is impossible to avoid. This is not a judgement on the person's piety, just on the person's ability to carry out certain religious functions. For most, this is overcome by a visit to a ritual bath called a mikvah. Some ritual impurities are much more difficult, like that of the Kohen to serve at the Temple, which needs the ashes of a red heifer. As no completely red heifer is known to have existed - two non-red hairs are enough to disqualify the animal - becoming ritually pure for a Kohen is, to all intents and purposes, impossible.
Buddy, do you ever stop and ask yourself why your god would make all this random stuff "spiritually impure?" Maybe back in the day when germs were a bigger issue this might be understandable, but that day's long gone now. Now, you're just worshiping a god with a severe case of spiritual misophobia. Maybe you should ask yourself why you should take orders from a god who bases so many laws on irrational neuroses.
Orthodox Jews treat married women the same way with respect to their imaginary period-cooties. Married couples have special beds that separate so that the husband doesn't accidentally touch his wife while she's having her monthly "impurity", the woman has to give herself a literal white glove test every day for several days after her period to make sure there's no trace of blood before they can have sex, and if the woman gets sick while she has her period, the husband is not to touch her to help her. However (my personal favorite), if the man gets sick while she has her period, the prohibition disappears so that the man can receive care from the woman. Nice, huh?
So, what is this with singling out unmarried women for the period cooties? Some middle of the road orthodox sect?
@ SpukiKitty
Rules against (unmarried) opposite sexes shaking hands or having any other close contact eliminate the threat of men touching contaminated territory. And naturally, women within the family know not to touch their menfolk at a time when they have the cooties.
"a man does not only become impure through having sexual relations with her, but also through intimacies like hugging and kissing."
Well I like to be impure as often as I can but unfortunately not as often as I'd like.
I can understand why this form of Judaism is a minority.
Why anyone would want to convert to this is anyone's guess.
Same with Wahhabis. WHY?!
WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT TO TAKE UP SUCH OPPRESSIVE, FUN-HATING, SUPER-AUSTERE WORLDVIEWS?!
You cannot kiss your GF. Wow.
Do you want them to wear burqas, too?
@Scratch - This is actually a rule of what counts as "pure" and "impure" in Jewish religion (it is mentioned in the Mishnah, sort of a lawbook from biblical times). A menstruatting woman is considered "impure" in the way that she can't take part of religious rituals, can't have sex etc. It doesn't mean she's "sinful", and menstruaing being the same as being unmarried theologically?

I'm seriously ashamed that there is a Jewish person who bends the rules to suit his own norms. I'm ashamed that I share a religion with this guy.
'Wings' awarded by Hell's Angels.
When performing oral sex on a woman whilst menstruating.
Stick that in your Tefillin and wear it, Tizzy Fishbrain. >:D
@JGC
There are actually ultra-Orthodox Jews who refuse to pass between two women on the street, in order to avoid the off chance that someone might suspect that he has two wives. I'm not kidding. I heard a story about a bunch of Israeli youngsters who pranked a couple of ultra-Orthodox guys in a shop by having two of the girls from the group stand by the sides of the door, thus preventing them from exit.
...Yeah, my religion is just as stupid as fundieism sometimes.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
