"Oh, dear friend, religion and government WILL mix. Here...AND EVERYWHERE for that matter."
'EVERYWHERE'?!

Oh, no more please, Mr. Wilde, I am bereft of ribs! PROTIP: According to polls & surveys done by the EU, the Czech Republic is the least religious country in Europe (and just 5% of Sweden's population are regular churchgoers; less than that in Denmark).
Just try it here in the UK. As an 'independent' MP - if you're as lucky as Martin Bell:

And even then, you wouldn't get very far, in terms of support for any potential legislation of your own. Even if you ran as a candidate for one of the Big 3: Labour (Centre-left), Conservative (Centre-right) or Liberal Democrat ('Middle-of-the-road'), you'd be subject to the influence of the Whips (apart from Free Votes in Parliament; even then, that's not a guarantee that you'd get your own way). And the Chief Whip is God, as far as you're concerned; it's not wise to get on his/her wrong side, if you want to keep that office, assistant(s) etc, never mind advance up the 'Greasy Pole'. One more thing: it may be due to the fact that it exists in the US. But being an openly fundie MP here in the UK would result in having the 'Party Whip' (i.e. political support) withdrawn from you, as being so is a guaranteed vote-killer here in the UK. If you want that position, nay a future cabinet post, you'd have to STFU about your 'beliefs' & 'faith', and say 'Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir' to the Chief Whip [/Francis Urquhart]*. Especially if he/she was pro-Choice, pro-LGBT etc.
I think you'll find that our Parliament is very secular. Almost as much as that of India - the most religious country on the planet, ironically.
'Separation of Church and State' will always exist in all decent, civilised, democratic countries, I think you'll find, Ruptured Retards; Certainly here in Europe, as it is in the US. After all, the last time Church & State were indivisible, people were burned at the stake.
"Just hope 'we' aren't on the wrong sie of the fence when that time comes."
'Aren't'? [/Spartan Laconic Wit] The way things are looking for you & the GOP, re. potential candidates for the next election, you're already on that 'wrong side'. >:D

Ironically, the actor who played this vile, unctious, Machiavellian character, the late great Ian Richardson, was actually a staunch Labour supporter.
