Tell me, in what way has the Catholic Church founded by Christ been involved in keeping people in the dark for over a thousand years? That's just a common myth created by liberals and protestants.

Yeah, that's right, you guys claimed the Earth revolved around the Sun all along. /sarcasm
Galileo must be fucking rolling in his grave.
Pssst....hey, Otter! That won't suffice. Besides, you know the cliche that popped up after the latest Indiana Jones movie, the one about "nuking the fridge".
Here, join me in this meat locker. Safest place to hide from flames anywhere between the Equator and the Arctic Circle.
*grins and offers you some of his coffee to help stay warm*
How much true human progress did Europe see between Roman times and the Enlightenment? No, really. I can't think of anything.
And what entity had Europe in lockdown mode during that time?
BTW, not founded by Christ, but by a group of disciples shouted down by Paul, who wasn't really a disciple but he said he was. He was also both a Jew and a Roman to suit his convenience.
Crusades, witch hunts, inquisitions, supporting only scientific and artistic ventures that catered to their religious ideology and opposing anything that they deemed to not fit inside that frame, silencing and punishing people with claims of heresy, blasphemy, and/or host desecration, along with tacitly feeding into general antisemitism and churning in all the wealth it can in the process. All of these little things helped to contribute to a rather impressive period of relative stagnation.
And, in the present day, the Catholic church continues its tradition by opposing birth control, and condom use (even in situations where it serves as legitimate protection from disease as well as contraception)and protecting pedophile priests, while still being more liberal, rational, and less intolerant and destructive than many of its denominational brethren at this stage...
Truly, a frightening prospect...
Until i discovered this site I'd not have believed a statement like (the Catholic Church) is still more liberal, rational, and less intolerant and destructive than many of its denominational brethren at this stage
Sadly, I can now see how despite the their hankering for a return to the dark ages they almost appear rational compared to so many cults. I think I'm going to stop coming here, it's frightening me how many bat-shit insane people are out there.

Well, for a start, how about having the Bible in Latin and prohibbiting it to be printed in any modern languages?
Also, I know Catholics who will tell you you're full of shit.

Aye, and look what happened when they started to translate into the vulgar languages - It sprouted evangelical fundies like mushrooms!
Founded by Christ?
Well, the christian churches that exist today (catholic as well as protestant) were rather founded by a person named Paul of Tarsus, who never met Jesus in person.
There were lots of other christian denominations which were at quarrel with pauline image of christ (and the gospels that were later selected by paulinity to be part of the bible). But they were persecuted and exterminated when pauline christianity got influence in the roman empire between 400 and 600 AD.
Maybe the true christian religion (if Jesus really existed) might have been among the christian denominations that were exterminated ;-)
Religion, especially christianity, has thrived on subjecting us to 1600 years of Mushroom Management.
Mushroom Management = Being kept in the dark and fed shit.
Since my job of 56 years has been translating very ancient scripts, I can assure you the "bible" bears absolutely NO relationship to the originals - which were folk-lore stories in the first place.
My mom tells me plenty of stories from her batshit Catholic school, many involving the usual physical and emotional abuse at the hands of spinster nuns. On one occassion, a nun screamed at her for watching a movie without first checking the (Worcester, MA) Catholic Free Press to see if the Legion of Decency had cleared it. I'd say censorship keeps people in the dark.
Middle Ages rings you a bell, I guess. Well, any time somebody opposes progress and science because of religion(see XIX century), they're worth that appelative.
Yeah, I know, its a common liberal lie that the church persecuted science and freedom of though and religion. Galileo was actually hailed as a confirmer of heliocentrism in the bible, proving that wonderful book knew things before science did.
1. Christ didn't "found" the Catholic Church. He was A JEW!!!
2. A millennia of covering up the physical, psychological and sexual abuses of women and children to my mind qualifies as "keeping people in the dark".
3. Talking snakes, men living in whales and virgin birth sound like the myths, pal.

So Paulie was a Chrino?
Heh heh heh
People who write things like that kind of prove the point, really. There is nothing at all in that post which is even remotely true.
Bud, you are so in the dark that you make the inside of a black hole look like the surface of the sun.
By looking down on reason and enquiry, despising material progress and actively persecuting free thinkers.
Next question?
EDIT: oh, and of course purging pagan texts and even Christian ones - of which they were the only depositors - to make orthodoxy look better.

Oh you fundies - even left-footers - just walk right into your own FAIL, don't you...?:

And doing so, via awesome spaceships like this Romulan Valdore-class Warbird too:

PROTIP: The Romulan Star Empire, whilst an offshoot of the Vulcan race, it has been said is what there would've been, if the (ancient) Roman Empire hadn't fallen. A Senate with a Praetor ; Centurions in their space forces, and as with eagles ('SPQR', and all that jazz), equates with Romulan symbolism, re. their worship of raptors as gods
'It is possible that mankind is on the threshold of a golden age; but, if so, it will be necessary first to slay the dragon that guards the door, and this dragon is religion.'
-Bertrand Russell
