The father is defending a poor innocent Black falsely accused of raping a race-mixing White whore, then found guilty by evil racist Southerners and murdered. The evil racist rape victim's father then tries to murder Scout and her brother to get revenge on their dad, but is killed by the hero figure. The book is nothing but filthy, anti-White, race-mixing propaganda. It was part of the effort to brainwash and browbeat Southern parents into submitting to having their little girls forced into mixed race jungle-schools with Blacks.
