science has no advantages in the survival of any species. In fact, I think it can be plausibly argued for the reverse: all science hinders the survival of the species.

Return computer, TV, clothes, food... ah fuckit - everything and go straight back to the cave where you came from. Do not pass 'Go' and collect your medication.
Yeah, damn our antibiotics, vaccines, cures for diseases and ability to produce mass amounts of food.
I mean, god damn you science you're killing people all over!
I think it's pointless to use the "but antibiotics and vaccinations are curing diseases and helping people live longer" argument because these people don't believe that stuff works in the first place.
I think a better argument is to pressure them until they give up using any modern innovations and live in a log cabin in the woods.
"science has no advantages in the survival of any species."
Science--in general biology and in particular virology and immunology--are what likely kept you from dying during your childhood from some fairly common but deadly virus or bacteria. Science--again biology but more specifically agriculture--is also what keeps you from starving to death or having to hunt and gather your own food.
"In fact, I think it can be plausibly argued for the reverse: all science hinders the survival of the species."
I would love to see you live in a cave for a year in some remote jungle where you have no immunizations against the local viruses. You get no clothing (as those are created through chemistry and textile mills which utilize scientific principles), no means to make fire other than what you can find (that Bic lighter and box of matches are both products of science and engineering after all) and you'll have to hunt, trap or gather all of your food yourself. Firearms and modern stainless steel knives are also products of science so you'll get none of those either.
Good luck. I'd give you a week before you starve to death. Maybe a month if you had a few hearty meals before you left. More likely though you'd drink from an impure water source, contract a virus, bacteria or parasite and die an agonizingly lingering death.
Science has no effect on the survival of any species, good or bad, Science is just the observation and study of the universe.
What humans DO with that science is another matter. Again, good or bad.

You were saying?......
I think this fundie has his words mixed up. I believe he/she was trying to say:
"religion has no advantages in the survival of any species. In fact, I think it can be plausibly argued for the reverse: all religion hinders the survival of the species."
Makes a heck of a lot more sense if you ask me.
From the same guy in the same thread after mentioning a whole bunch of crap that 'science' has caused:
"How bad could the 5th Century be compared to this? What universe do you hail from, where you can so easily whitewash modernity and anathematize antiquity? What do you really know about the 5th Century anyway? "
heh. I laff.
Really?
Organ transplants, surgical procedures, tests for genetic diseases, vaccinations, medications, prosthetics...
Your comment takes a trophy for being the most asinine I have read today.
I think I get what he's trying to say, but missing completely.
I think what he's getting at is that we're destroying this world with our technology. If so, I'm glad a fundie finally gets that! Closer, but not perfect.
You mean the science that treats cancer or allows for heart transplants? Yea, science really has stopped our species from flourishing.
Wasn't that the same science that figured out handwashing during childbirth increased an infants chance of survival ?
It must be a switcheroo, I agree. 'Cog' obviously plagiarized a coherent statement concerning religion, and replaced the word 'religion' with 'science'. Please note, s/he/it did not even bother to capitalize the first substitution.
"You can't fight plasma cannons with prayer." -myself, contemplating a fictitious war between fundies and a nation of high technological advancement
EDIT: Hell, it wouldn't even have to be a war or competition for resources/land. A nation of fundies would still fail when copmared to an advanced nation.
Or, for that matter, King Genseric of the Vandals? Yes, there were military squabbles between Christians back then--the Romans were Athanasians, the Vandals Arians. Genseric actually believed that his attacks on Roman holdings were justified because they were accursed by God for cleaving to Athanasius's "heresy"!
Some Christian utopia that would be...
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
