I remember seeing a statistics which said that 74% of all inhabitants of american prisons were christians. Obviously they are not very keen about obeying the law ;)

And instead of blaming atheists for your shootings, rather blame your gun control laws. Most countries in europe have a more secular school system than the US, but we have far fewer people killed wounded/killed by shootings than the USA.
Looks like the reason for this might be, that in europe not every darned idiot can buy a gun ;)
(the only case of school massacre in neurope I know of, Erfurt, only could happen because the father of the pupil was in a gun club and neglected his duty to keep his rifle cabinet locked at all times)

Many (perhaps most) atheists are ethical rationalists, and ethical rationalism also teaches that one should obey the law and not go about violently attacking or killing.

I do. I remember that both of the shooters were raised in Christian households. There has been no conclusive evidence that they had embraced atheism.

Regardless, the exception does not prove the rule.

High-profile mass shootings in schools didn't begin until ~1997 (Pearl, MS), and subsided after several years (though, tragically, they still do occur).

At what point was "God removed from public schools?" Was it before 1997?

I'm also curious--why mention Columbine? The school shooting in Padukah, KY took place at a student-lead (Xtian) prayer session. Though the gunman never gave a religious motivation for that shooting either, AFAIK.

There seem to be an awful lot of Christian soldiers killing the muslim faithful in an illegal war in Iraq.

The introduction of fluorecent lighting in schools also predates most U.S. school shootings, as does the rise in consumption of kiwi fruit.

It teaches to obey the law unless one feels it conflicts with "God's laws."

Your Bible says you should kill homosexuals, disobedient children, adulterers, those who try to convert you top another religion, etc..

It's rather sick how you people leech onto tragedies like this. People like you have long had a problem with religion being removed from schools and you latch onto these awful incidents just to further your pre-existing arguments with no hard proof that one has anything to do with the other. You're just preying on people's fears and their need to find something easily fixable to blame. And yet, these big school shootings aren't such a problem in other parts of the world, where your god (or any god for that matter) also doesn't exist in the schools.

As far as what Christianity teaches...please. One of the main focuses is on the idea that you can be forgiven on any sin, including murder, if you simply honestly seek for forgiveness. That fundemental flaw has been used as a justification to do whatever one wants during the early part of their lives by many Christians. And the bible is perfectly fine with attack/killing others when doing so in service to god - Your religion is filled with loopholes and contradictions.

As you can see, not only is there a disproportionate number of atheists in prison, they constitute about a fifth of a percentage. There are roughly 187 times more Catholics in prison, to say nothing of the other Christian denominations, than there are atheists.

Seriously, doesn't Xiao-Feng-Fury realize that even if 1)the Columbine shooters actually were atheist and b)said atheism motivated their rampage (neither ow which is true, AFAIK), one anecdote doesn't make a rule? It's akin to claiming that all Xians are potential Andrea Yates... (and at least in her case we actually know for a fact that religion was the root of the whole tragedy)
