Give me a break. I'M Christian and I can say with a straight face that I don't hate gay people and mean it, because I DO support gay rights. I DO actually have friends who are homosexual and I want them to be happy and treated with equality and acceptance. I do want all fifty states of this country to get their act together and allow homosexuals to marry. And no, in case you were wondering, nobody "pushed" me to accept gay marriage. If anything pushed me, it was my conscience and common sense.

African-American slaves fought in the Revolutionary War alongside the colonists. After the war ended, that wasn't the "right time" to free them? African-Americans fought in the Civil War and they did indeed become free afterwards, but it would take practically another hundred years for their right to vote to be enforced. When is the "right time" and who are you to decide what is the "right time" for anything? You're nothing but a spoiled rotten brat who probably has all her rights handed to her on a silver platter, who never had to fight or struggle for them.

Hate to break it to you, Megan, but homosexuality is not new. Homosexuals have been around since the dawn of man. They've been *GASP* living among you and you've never even known it. Alexander the Great was bisexual. Oscar Wilde was gay. So was King James of KJV Bible fame. Ancient Greece tolerated and accepted homosexuality. Just because homosxuality was covered up doesn't mean that it wasn't there. Let me correct you: homosexuality was there long before you were and homosexuals are happy with how they are. YOU are the one who insists on butting into their group and making rules for them.

I'm not saying that America has to be a complete clone of Europe or Asia, but learning from others would be nice. Just think, we're all members of the same global community. We all each have our own strengths and weaknesses. If we took good ideas from other countries and found ways to incorporate them into ours, maybe we could improve this country. Other countries have learned from us, so why can't we learn from them? We share because we care. :D

So what's your view on Obama, Megan? Besides, if you don't like that a few states in this country have legalized gay marriage, YOU leave. If you can't accept that this country holds dearly the rights of free speech and dissent, of the value found in differing opinions and outlooks, and of the value of equal rights for citizens, YOU leave and go to a country more suited to your primitive views.

You know, I could make the same argument for religious fundies who want to turn this country into a virtual replica of Saudi Arabia, only Christian. Megan, unless you failed history class, you might want to remember that in the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson wrote down that Americans are entitled to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Why should homosexual Americans have to move to another country to get married? Why can't they get married in their own country? Especially since one of their country's core values is equality for all citizens. ALL citizens, no matter how different they are from you.

Then how the heck do you think African-Americans and women got rights, then? Contrary to what you might think, the government didn't just "let" them have rights. They pushed and struggled and bled and fought for those rights. Your ancestors fought for the right for you to type your demeaning nonsense on a computer. Your ancestors fought for the right for you to say whatever you want without worrying about pleasing your male relative/husband. As you've said, change doesn't come quickly or easily. People HAVE to push for it, otherwise it'll never happen.
