There has never been a primarily atheistic society in history. Even the USSR wasn't predominantly atheist according to historians who have studied it.
Also, Albert Einstein. You lose.

Good to see that all the reports of violence in the Middle East are false. Thankfully, Yahweh has provided peace across the globe. Except where he hasn't, which would be everywhere.

Scandinavian countries. Denmark, Sweden especially, and Norway. These all have primarily atheistic societies and are also considered to be the happiest, most stable places on earth. Next question?

Albania, mother fucker.
7/4/2012 9:41:27 AM
This is one really prolific douche.
7/4/2012 9:45:11 AM
Yeah. And name one primarily atheistic society whose members have all read "Lord Jim" and can play the harmonica! That's because atheists can't read and have tin ears.

>>#1 not experienced any mass killings in the past few decades<<
That's an unrealistic standard if I've ever seen one.
As J. James notes, Scandinavia is arguably the least religious part of the world. They have of course had some mass killings (Breivik comes to mind). But the rate of violence in those countries is quite low in comparison to almost anywhere else - Western Europe has about 1/4 the homicide rate of the US and Japan is about the same as Europe. I suspect this is due more to the relative lack of guns than to religion, but the rate is what matters, not that Scandinavia is not a perfect place to live.

Name one theocracy which has not experience any mass killings in the past few decades.
"Arguing atheists possess some level of altruism is like arguing that Islam is the 'religion of peace.'"
So, Carnegie donating all those public libraries was selfish pleasure seeking or was it murder?

Your handle is an oxymoron.

"reproducing on a replacement level"
If you're a technologically competent society, as most atheist nations are, there's no point in having a bunch of kids who won't be able to find jobs because of advances in manufacturing and agriculture.
Americans seem unable to grasp the principle of productivity, and keep pumping out brats as if they were still needed to till the fields and assemble goods by hand.

Sweden and France come instantly to mind. They're both very atheistic and very peaceful.

Arguing atheists possess some level of altruism
Ah, the typical false causality flaw.
In my experience a person's level of altruism has little or nothing to do with his level or religiosity or lack thereof.
Very religious people can be total and utter assholes, just like some atheists can, and atheists can be righteous and charitable, just like some religious people.
As of yet, when viewed objectively and without prejudice, I have failed to see any correlation one way or the other.

Let's see... Sweden? I'd say Norway, were it not for the atrocious mass-murder committed there by a devout Christian last year.
Oh, and if by mass murder you specifically mean genocide, I would like to point out that European nations, on an individual basis, stop committing genocide ONLY when the majority of people in them become atheists. (The USSR viewed Stalin as a god; therefore was not atheist.)
7/4/2012 11:26:02 AM
and #2 is reproducing on a replacement level.
You really think any country in the world is suffering from population decrease? With 7 billion people in the world, I don't think we're in any danger of going extinct.
This is because atheists are either selfish pleasure seekers and/or murderers.
Yeah, better watch out or we're coming to get you. Ooga booga!
7/4/2012 11:36:38 AM
Sweden is fairly atheistic and I can't remember any mass killings since Ådalen 1931, when we weren't nearly as atheistic as we are today. (I personally don't remember Ådalen, of course. I just remember learning about it in History class.)
I think we're about 1.8 children per woman. Almost replacement level, but not quite. But, thanks to immigration, our population is growing a little bit each year.
I try to live after utilitarianism; maximum amount of happiness to the largest possible amount of people. That doesn't always include me. But if people around me are happy, I feel good too. Even if that means me working on a Saturday, so my colleague can go to a wedding party. Isn't that "possessing some level of altruism"?
People are arguing that both Islam, Judaism and Christianity are the religions of peace. They all say "Thou shalt not kill", ya know. One often forgets the "...unless I, thy God, tell you to", that soon follows in all three holy books. Looking at them from outside, it's very obvious that they come from the same source. Maybe God wasn't happy with the way people interpreted His words, so he tried again, but he still wasn't happy and tried for a third time...

Go fuck yourself, you stalking, jizz-yodeling cum-dumpster piece of shit. Norway, Sweden, and Japan, bitch. Now go shoot yourself.

If religion is such a force for peace then why aren't religious countries devoid of violence? I know, you'll blame it all on atheists but the jails are virtually devoid of them.
7/4/2012 12:11:20 PM
Lying is a sin jewish philosopher. Why do you want to got to hell?
7/4/2012 12:34:38 PM
The Piraha, bitch.
7/4/2012 12:44:45 PM
Not Jewish (I don't think you can suddenly declare yourself a Jew and be accepted as such by other Jews) and not a philosopher. He's just a netloon, and a rather boring one.
7/4/2012 1:04:29 PM
It's true that state atheism has never been a good idea. However, most secular societies are doing fine, no matter what religion the people there tend to be.
7/4/2012 1:38:57 PM
Arguing atheists possess some level of altruism is like arguing that Islam is the "religion of peace".
You were saying?
7/4/2012 2:19:40 PM
You wouldn't make a pimple on a Jewish philosopher's ass.
