WARNING: The powerful Sacred Name opens the way for truth, as much truth as you can stand. There is a severe spiritual penalty for misuse of the Name, Exo:20:7. "Respect is what we owe, love is what we give," and vocalizing the Sacred Name of the CREATOR must be with respect. If you do not believe in HIM then it is better never to say the Name, (reading does not count), than to use or speak it in a slanderous or disrespectful way

You gotta wonder how it never occurs to fundies like this that since atheists such as myself don't believe in god, then we clearly don't believe in heaven, hell or anything else to do with christian mythology. It's sort of distressing in a "losing faith in humanity" way to see arguments such as "I don't understand how someone could not believe in god, don't they know they're going to go to hell?" or "if you don't believe in god, don't say his name or he'll punish you!"
Yeah I'm really afraid of punishment from a fictional deity...</sarcasm>
Well, god damnit, there goes like, half my insults. Jesus Christ, what else do they want?
I've never fully understood what it is about names that gets some peoples' panties in a wad. A name is a word. Words are designators, not charms or the objects themselves. And yet it seems to be an old tradition to blur the line between the name and the signified, respectful use and mystic control.
Yeah OK, but whatever _Teh Name_ is, it isn't "god," and IIRC nobody really knows how to pronounce it, so what is the big goddamned deal?
Yes, because as we all know, it's perfectly logical to assume that if we utter the sacred name of a fictitious god, he will rain fire and lightning. After all, isn't that a reasonable response from an omniscient benevolent deity?
[/sarcasm]
Simply using a specific gender in reference to the MONAD is blasphemy, as it refutes the larger Totality.
The god of Abraham? Yaldabaoth is the "name" his mama gave him.
The kind of people to which this would apply wouldn't bother following your quote for your reason. If they curtailed their use of that name, it would usually be out of -generic- respect, not out of anything to do with a religion they don't have.
"A rose by any other name still smells as sweet."
So, how does a name have any power? Last I knew, no words uttered cause supernatural phenomena, as that would be magic, and as cool as it might be, reality doesn't work that way. And anyways, doesn't having the name engraved (written) have more power than just speaking it (according to the myths that give names power anyways)?
...Let it be known that the only use of my name shall be when a lion is sighted. Thou shalt shout:
"Jesus Christ it's a lion! Get in the car!"
Then, thou shalt climb into the nearest motor vehicle unoccupied by a lion, and drive away at a high rate of speed until the threat passes.
Confused?
