@TOS(ser)
"Large groups of americans will always be against abortion and vote for politicians that as you pointed out, in THEORY will try to get the baby murder decision over turned"
And yet, you'd have thought that, in THEORY, their voice carried such weight & sway, and thus generate enough political strength to lobby the GOP, to the extent that the Repubican Party would have no choice but to do what their supporters demanded? Like I say, Roe vs. Wade was signed into law by the devoutly Christian Repubican president Richard Nixon in 1973.
It's now 2011. Roe vs. Wade is still in place. Abortion is still legal
38 years.
Plenty of time between then & now has elapsed for your precious Religious Right to work day & night to generate sufficient political pressure (mayhaps to the extent that they could've blackmailed the GOP by saying 'Repeal Roe vs. Wade, or we'll stop voting for you', thus destroying the Repubican Party). So ask yourself this question, TOS(ser): why haven't they?
...oh yes, that's right. Even the upper echelons of the Religious Right know that if they got exactly what they wanted - RvW repealed - their precious governors, congressmen & senators would never get voted in again. Just as the GOP & Repubican Party as a whole know this.
Like I say, you're on your own. Abortion is legal. And there's fuck all you personally can do about it (Scott Roeder tried - and failed).
Deal with it.
"An excellent of the equally uncompromising attitude leftists like you take."
No, I just firmly believe that abortion is purely down to the decision of the individual woman. And nobody else - least of all we men - have the right to tell her otherwise.
The only other alternative is for all 'Pro-Lifers' - including you - to look after all the unwanted babies in the world. One more thing:
Romans 13:1: 'Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.'
2: 'Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves.'
3: 'For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you.'
4: 'For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.'
5: 'Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.'
Throughout Ford's Raygun's, Bush I's & Dumbya's administrations, they kept Roe vs. Wade on the statute books (they certainly did nothing to repeal it; not even by the use of an Executive Order). All of whom were Repubicans. All right-wingers. All Christians. Who signed Roe vs. Wade into law in 1973?
Richard Nixon. A Repubican. A right-winger. A Christian.
Remember: Romans 13: 1-5*. Your call, TOS(ser).
*- Oh, and don't give me any of that 'You're a heathen, so anything you say on the Bible, and it's interpretation of such, is irrelevant' excuses & bullshit. By the very fact I know about Romans 13, and it's implications for you proves I know more about your 'beliefs' than you do. Remember this?:
http://www.fstdt.net/QuoteComment.aspx?QID=74131&Page=6
(emphasis added):
"And fuck off anon-e-shit. As an atheist anything you say about my faith is invalid and irrelveant.. The doctrine of faith is not the inquisition; some how i dont think there is a torture or execution chamber in the vatican. Buzz of you ignorant atheist subhuman scumbag."
Whereupon I replied thusly:
"Hmmm, seems someone doesn't know very much about the organisation of the clergy that represents his 'beliefs':
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inquisition
(emphasis added):
'In 1908 Saint Pope Pius X renamed the organisation: it became the "Supreme Sacred Congregation of the Holy Office". This in its turn became the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1965, which name continues to this day.'
Therefore his own faith is invalid and irrelevant. As is his religion. Certainly his own knowledge of such.
I love the smell of destroyed arguments in the morning. Smells like... victory."
I know more about your 'beliefs', and the book they're based on than you do. And more besides. After all:
'Properly read, the Bible is the most potent force for Atheism ever conceived'
-Isaac Asimov
'Know your enemy and know yourself, and you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles'
-Sun Tzu, "The Art of War"
PROTIP: We in FSTDT have long memories. It doesn't pay to bullshit we Atheists.
--EDIT--
@DevilsChaplain
"What baby-murder decision? We're discussing abortion."
Precisely. The former is illegal, the latter legal. There is a difference.
And Romans 13: 1-5 orders you to accept, abide by & obey Roe vs. Wade, TOS(ser). It was signed into law by a Repubican, right-wing Christian president after all. And maintained by subsequent Repubican right-wing Christian presidents.
Question this, you go against the will of your God, TOS(ser). And if abortion is his will (as Romans 13: 1-5 says so), so be it.
Deal with it. After all,
Your God committed/ordered enough baby murders of his own. Just read the Old Testament for proof (emphasis added):
Hosea 13:15: 'I will have no compassion...the people of Samaria...will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground; their pregnant women ripped open.'
To say nothing of all those pregnant women caught in the Flood & the plagues wrought upon Egypt. Now you tell me, TOS(ser): What had those unborn babies ever done to warrant infanticide by (and by authorised agents of) your 'loving, merciful' God? Ergo, you worship the ultimate baby murderer. Q.E.D., bitch.
