(in response to an article about the "relaxion" theory to explain the Higgs mass)
Higgs was appropriately labeled the 'God particle' but I fail to see divine energy explored e.g. speed of light (years) v. God's light - instantly, and constantly. Quantum Theology (D. O'Murchu)

Ahem - learn to Google:
"The name was created by Leon Lederman, a Nobel-Prize-winning physicist, for the title of a book ("The God Particle: If The Universe Is The Answer, What Is The Question?"). But it wasn't what he wanted to call it. Originally he wanted to call it the "Goddamn Particle", because "nobody could find the thing" (according to Lederman's one-time postdoc researcher Marcelo Gleiser). But his editor convinced him "The God Particle" would sell more copies. We don't know whether that's true, but what certainly is true is the name stuck."

@ Wyzard
That's right!
That said, I like the term "God Particle" because, taken at face value, I kind of works as a metaphor in a weird, Pantheistic sort of way.
Plus "Higgs Boson" sounds cumbersome and it sounds like a name for some "Southern Stereotype" guy.
"Howdy! Mah name is Higgs, Higgs Boson! Welcome to Alabama!"
The other particles get quick, one word names like Atom, Molecule, Quark...
....and then, there's Higgs Boson .
Is there a concise, one-word term out there?
I guess Higgs is it.
No.
The Higgs was the particle hypothesized to generate the field that gave all other particles their mass. It was predicted decades ago, but only recently have we been able to confirm its existence. Doing so helped to validate a version of the Standard Model, and greatly increases our understanding of physics.
Tens of thousands of people patiently working for years to unravel and tease tiny bits of data from experiment after experiment, and still more people who spent years developing and building the hardware for the LHC, are responsible for its discovery. There is nothing supernatural involved, no superstition, and no faith beyond the certainty that we CAN understand the world we live in, if we only want to do so.
There were only men and women working steadily for years on end.
@SpukiKitty :

Hydrogen atom, helium atom, protein molecule, sugar molecule, top quark, bottom quark. Doesn't work like that.
The bosons (the force carriers) are photons, gluons, W+/W0/W-, gravitons (probably) and now Higgs (probably Higgs0; there may be four others).
> They don't realise that instant propagation requires imaginary amounts of energy. Which means that their Gobs is imaginary.
No, it just means that God's energy is orthogonal to ours. The name "imaginary number" is kinds of awful.
Of course, orthogonal energy doesn't currently mean anything, but that's only because nothing has ever been observed that behaves like imaginary or complex energy.
@pyro
He was playing with words, so I decided to play a bit with words too.
Yes, I realise imaginary numbers are orthogonal to reals.
Confused?
