[Have you ever met a happy, polite atheist?]
Not at all. They are miserable because they have no explanation for life or their existence.

Who the fuck says I was looking for those answers anyway?! My happiness is not based upon those concepts. I am very happy because I have a loving family, a good job, cool friends, a stable financial situation, etc.. What more could I ask for?!
I see one every morning while shaving.
Oh, and we do have an explanation for our lives and our existence (redundancy?) - if you'd just quit singing your LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU song you'd hear it.
Yes, you have you fucking liar. We're everywhere. The guy holding the door open for you and smiling? Atheist. The woman chatting with you in line at the grocer? Atheist. Friendly old man at the nursing home staring out the window? Atheist.
I know for a fact that when you meet happy, polite people you don't immediately scream "Are you an atheist?" at them. However, you probably do assume they believe in your myth, since how else could anyone be happy, right?
"... they have no explanation for life or their existence."
Self-replicating chemical reactions that out-compete other self-replicating chemical reactions.
Next question?
Yeah! That's why sites like FSTDT exist, because atheists got no sense of humour. Brother, believe me, we're ROTFLOFAO all the time here.
You got me on one point though, I'm not always the politest of people. There again, I'm not a savage beast and am fairly tolerant and reasonably civilized, I think? Sometimes anyway. Well, er now and again. Um ...
Actually, I'm happier that I don't know. Leaves me one less thing (well, two less) to worry about in life. But thanks for playing, try again next time, asshole.
Well, my friend's an atheist and he seems pretty happy every time I see him.
Not that you'd know about friends...
Yeah, keep deluding yourself like a good little sheeple. Atheists and most Christians have the answers science provides which is enough, some people don't even care about those. It's not like you need to know the origins of everything to be happy
Yes we do, it's called "evolution". Have you heard of it? By the way, I like to think I am happy and polite. My sister in law is happy and polite. My brother is kind of a jerk, but that's just his nature.
There's my sister, my best friend, and me. And that's just in the small sample of people I actually know. Out of the larger sample of millions of atheists all over the world, there has to be more happy, polite atheists, as well as some arrogont assholes. Now, have you ever met an atheist? Or ar you just parroting what your pastor said?
You might enjoy considering yourself the descendant of dirt, Stephen, but we grownups tend to become impatient with slobbering dirt-spawn like yourself demanding allegiance from us.
Primordial soup, boy, primordial soup. And a bit of hokey-pokey.
Sure I got an explanation for our existence.
Natural processes.
This explanation neither makes me happy or unhappy. I just find it more credible then 'mysterious being made it with magic'.
As for politeness. Not on-line I'm not! Actually even in real life there's limits, I'm more civil there, but I still have very limited patience with asshats. As people say, I can be as blunt as a hammer to the face in cases like that. But the world needs brutally honest people too.
I'm quite happy and polite. Hell, some people even say I'm one of the most well mannered and friendliest people they've met, not to brag or anything.
(Although, to be fair, I am agnostic rather than atheist...)
Well Stephen T, do you want to come to Dallas TX where their are a bunch of Free Thinkers that are very polite and happy with their lives?
Of course you wouldn't, it would weaken your argument.
[Have you ever met a happy, polite Christian?}
Not at all. They are miserable because they want to meet their creator and view this life and their existence here as insignificant compared to the life they believe is ahead. And they are all douches in general because they don't think that doing good deeds matter, since everyone is evil anyway. As long as they believe in Jesus and he will save them, they can do whatever they want. They are just terrible people all around.
[End Note: Try harder in the future to not judge people based entirely on how you think they should behave based on extrapolations of their beliefs. It is more reflective of the bias of the person doing so than it is of reality]
Um. No. My existence is due to my parents. The ultimate cause of my existence doesn't matter, nor does my ultimate "destination" (guess what? some of us are ok with just dying); it's what I do here that matters. Ask Willow, Neko, Cinnamon and Turtle (especially Willow and Turtle).
As for politeness, that has absolutely nothing to do with religion or lack thereof. The vast majority of people I run across in public are completely inconsiderate of others.
I'm happy because:
-I'm not enslaved to a 2000 year old work of fiction.
-I'm not spending all my days looking for evil in everything I see.
-My self-esteem is not so fragile that the thought of having descended from a primate millions of years ago does not send me into a tailspin of batshittery.
-I don't cry about being persecuted every time I meet someone who's views or see someone asking for equal rights as a threat to my freedom or way of life.
-I don't have to haul my ass out of bed every Sunday to go sit in a crowded airless building and listen to some windbag drone on incessantly about their sky daddy.
-I live a clean, decent, honest, uncomplicated life.
-I'm not obsessing over what's going to happen to me when my earthly life ends. Worse case scenario: it's just over, the end, goodbye. Best case scenario: I get to be reincarnated, start life over, and hope to do better with my next one.
I'm polite because:
-My mommy and daddy raised me to be that way.
I don't know if I'm an atheist or just agnostic. But besides from being sad for loosing my job in a few weeks' time, I am rather happy, and according to people around me I am very polite.
We don't feel the need to fantasize about any explanation for life. We are content with living it, making the best we can of it, here and now.
Yes I have. Part of the joy I experience in life is to explore possible meanings of existence and life. To discover meaning in one's existence is a journey, not a statement given to you through authorised rote learning. Being in the state of mind that your quote implies points to a massive failure of the imagination. How miserable.
"Not at all. They are miserable because they have no explanation for life or their existence."
Hey man, that only makes you miserable if you really wanted one in the first place. I mean nobody would think it's mean to tell kids that Santa isn't real if they'd never believed he was real anyway.
It's the low of coming back down to reality from the high of the religious fantasy of having universal importance and worth.
"Not at all. They are miserable because they have no explanation for life or their existence."
I'm feeling great, thanks. I don't need the emotional crutch of a fairytale to live my life by, nor to justify my existence. And now you know why these bus slogans exist here in the UK:

Good day to you, sir.
All of my friends are Athiest. Granted, I'm generally more happy and polite than them, but I don't think "It's because their inferior beliefs that make them less happy". I think "Everybody exists, thinks and acts differently, and why should I let that get in the way of my coexisting with them"
I pity people who aren't tolerant enough to fully enjoy life.
I am assuming you've met maybe two in your life and claimed all atheist to be depressed. I however laughed at your comment. Also, have you ever thought that they might be so unhappy because they disgusted by the illogical behavior and stupidity that is your religious beliefs that bring upon the world wars and destruction of polite humanity.
they have no explanation for life or their existence.
Well, you see, when a mommy and a daddy love each other very much....
Actually I'm pretty miserable right now, but it's because I'm sick. After a two week vacation and complete turn around in my health, I believe I'm allergic to the area I live in.
Have you ever met a happy, polite poster on Rapture Ready?
Have you ever met a happy, polite poster on conservapedia?
Do Brother Randy, Vox Day, Fred Phelps or David J. Stewart strike you as happy or polite?
Frankly, I do not think that belief in deities has anything to do with happiness or politeness
That's very funny. By the way, here's a quote from a fundie Christian who told an atheist that God nearly killed one of her children in order to punish her for her unbelief.
Here's the whole thing:
I don't even want to know how much you hate yourself and your life because you're an atheist. Life must be so pointless to you. I bet you amke your family miserible. That's another thing. I read your rant diary thing and I'll tell you what: that premature baby you got? I want you to know you did it. You almost killed your own baby because you reject the One True God! The sins of the father will fall unto his flower I tell you that much! How does that make you feel to know that because you hate God that you caused this tragedy in your family? If you still have a little spark of Jesus you should feel bad right now. If not it might be too late for you becaue the Devil has eaten your heart to peaces.

That's so fuckin' civil and happy that it brings a tear to my eye, it really does.
hmm, most atheists I know are rather factual, sciency peopls with explanations dripping from every orifice (no offense).
I exists because my parents were mammals who had - yes -sex.
I'm reasonably happy and nearly always polite.
Life is a combination of chemical processes, to put it in very basic terms.
My existence is a result of successful procreative sex and pregnancy.
Makes me wonder about what makes you happy, Stephen? Would you be truly happy if you lost your job, lost a few loved ones, got horribly injured, had to pay untold amounts of money for surgery, and had all your friends leave you, just if you knew that some myth might have created you?
*waves* hello Stephen *waves*
One day Ztharic the nURFG wass flying past earth on hist skycycle and he felt an urgent need to ghfsra so he stopped and did his business. Many days later the solar radiation caused a mutation and life arose.
