JOPLIN, Mo. — Regarding Anson Burlingame’s guest column (Globe, July 8), as a Christian, I agree with his premise of “live and let live, do no harm to others.”

We Christians also believe there is no “freedom from religion” clause in the Constitution. For the past several years this seems to be the aim of some politicians in our country, i.e. the teaching of homosexuality to some young children in our public schools as acceptable “alternate lifestyle,” excessive gun control, excessive taxation of guns and ammunition, forbidding Christian members of our armed forces from sharing their faith with others, and forbidding the chaplains to mention God and prayer. The list goes on and on.

Yes, Christians know we are in the minority ... always have been and always will be.

It's not a lifestyle, it's a sexual orientation. There are many gay people that just as boring as you are.

The US doesn't have excessive gun control. Japan and South Korea, were guns are illegal except in certain cases (police, military, sport shooters), have excessive gun control laws. On the other hand, as the Süddeutsche Zeitung called it, the US does have "excessive self-defence laws".

No, Christian in the United States are not in the minority, fundamentalists are. Christians are actually in the minority in several countries that were previously Christian dominated, the United States of America are not one of them.

--Freedom of religion includes freedom from religion. While you are free to exercise your religion, I am free to be absent of any religion.

--Homosexuality exists and is natural, there is nothing wrong with letting students know that as a matter of fact.

--I'm a gun owner and an atheist, I do not see where gun control is a Christian specific issue. Did Jesus mention guns?

--That is not happening.

--God can be mentioned in chaplain's prayers, however, because not everyone in the military is Christian (there are Jews, Wiccans and even Muslims, among others serving in the US armed forces), prayers held at military events are supposed to be non-sectarian, with no mention of any specific god. The generic title of "god" can be used, but not the names of any of the gods. This is supposed to, somehow, be all inclusive even though it excludes atheist service members like myself (I'm retired now).

Well, duh! There is a clause in the Constitution that forbids the government from establishment of religion. "Establishment" means "giving official validation". So yes, it does mean that the government can't involve itself in either one's religious beliefs or one's lack of beliefs. That carries a couple of implications. If the government can't get involved in religion, its employees in their official capacity can't, either. Otherwise, the clause would be meaningless. It also means the government can't take your particular religious beliefs into account when passing laws.

You Christians have every right to believe that, if you want to, and for you, there might not be any freedom from religion. But that doesn't mean that it concerns non-Christians. "Freedom of speech" does not mean there is no "freedom from speech", ya know; you do have the right not to speak.

Wait, what? Homosexuality is Biology, not Religion, and as such is included in the Biology curriculum.

You think you have "excessive gun control"? Yeah right!!! I’d guess that you have the laxest gun control of all western countries. You also pay very little taxes, compared with most other western countries.

Where does Jesus speak about guns and ammo, btw? Didn't he say something about "those who live by the sword, die by the sword"? That sounds like he’s against weapons, rather than for them, doesn’t it? Aren't you people often "pro-life"? How does that fit will all these guns and ammo?

The evul government also forbids the chaplains and pastors from molesting children. The list goes on and on.

You're in the astoundingly huge majority, dumbass! No other western country has that high amount of Christians, to my knowledge.
