Religion is the basis for all of humanaty's laws and morality. Without it we would never have developed civilizations. Without it we would still be living like animals, similar to how the left lives today.

Without religion, we wouldn't have had:
The Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, The Dark Ages, The Burning Times, Puritans/Spaniards invading the Americas and converting/killing the Natives living there, the "Salem Witch Trials", or bullshit reasons why slavery/racism/homophobia/sexism/rape should be legal.
Hmmmm...you know...
I think he has a point, just not how he's meaning to take it. One of the focal points for early civilization was the temples. The first part of Gilgamesh explains how temple prostitutes were something that 'civilized' primitive men. Also, temples were basically the earliest form of a tax system, where communal sacrifices (and food being shared) was what brought large numbers of people together.
Of course, he's probably saying "Christianity should be part of government, which is BS, but hey, he tried.

'Religion is the opiate of the masses'

Not seeing religion being the basis of our law here in Britain: and we have a state religion: the Church of England.
Otherwise, there would've neen no need for all those Free Votes - all of which went against those who demanded such - in Parliament to alter the existing legislation, re. abortion: because it would never have become legal in 1967 in the first place.
And I'm sure we'd all like to hear your detailed explanation as to why those Church of England clergy peers in the House of Lords dropped their opposition to S-SM: thus the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act was effectively rubber-stamped by MPs in the House of Commons: thus it became law in 2013.
Karl Marx is buried here in Britain: Highgate Cemetery, by the way.
Nope. Morality is the basis of law and society, or perhaps society is the basis of morality; it's hard to live in a mutually protective society with other people if you can't trust them. Religion is just window dressing, and counterproductive window dressing at that.
The snide crack at the end is just so we can see how moral you are, right?
Voting patterns in this country produce pretty good graphs for crime rates, education levels, health care, and life expectancy. The numbers are better in the blue states, worse in the red states.
That is how the Left are living.
No. Self-interest and empathy can get you better results.
While talking with my twelve-year-old one day, he started with "I am a person" and "I don't like when bad things happen to me", and managed to work out an entire reasoning for morality and ethics without ever once invoking a god or superstition.
Try it yourself.
All human laws?
Okay.
So, what religion is the basis for the 1st Amendment of the US Constitution?
What religious concept or commandment promotes the idea of protecting the individual's right to be Christain, Muslim, Jewish, Church of Shatner, Satanist, Atheist, Bum's Rush Wine Revelation, Flying Spaghetti Pirate, Druid, Wiccan, Scientologist, OR Jedi?
Confused?
