Philadelphia may be called "the city of brotherly love" for more than one reason - that reason being that brother-on-brother love is so honored that those who don't approve of it may be punished, even if they are trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent in every other manner.
That's right, former Boy Scouts. Philadelphia is so desperate to be homosexual-friendly it is punishing the Boy Scouts of America![snip}
When cities start beating up on Boy Scouts, the end of the Age of Grace surely must be drawing near.

Pretty sure he's referring to the fact that Philly has recently decided they can't rent a space to the Scouts for like $1 a day or something ridiculously low, basically because the city shouldn't be actively and visibly supporting a group with widely known discriminatory policies.
In other words, "Waaaah, WAAAAAH, we can't hate deh gheys no moes! WWAAAAAAAHHHH!! "
Yup, punishing the BSA by making them pay the fair market price for public facility use that everyone else would have to.
Kinda like how we violate the free speech rights of fundies by publicly disagreeing with them, eh?
You know ... I thought these people would have picked up on the fact that the Boy Scouts of America is pretty much run by the LDS church now. The kind of people who believe in "the rapture" also tend to be the kind of people who are rather anti-Mormon in their views, so why do they support the BSA as much as they do?
relevant to my interests
I am an Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor member of the OA, and a bisexual.
Philly isn't doing anything wrong. All they did was remove the special privileges that the BSA received. Which they should not have gotten as a private organization to begin with.
Of course, you have never considered the feelings of the homosexual person in question. For him or her, there isn't "brotherly love", surely.
Unlike Boy Scouts, which is a private organisation(and thus, benefited from complying with the anti-discrimination policies), Philadelphia council is a public institution which can't endorse discrimination and, therefore, can't lend their facilities for a symbolic prize. You can't have it both ways. Let's put it in another way.
A similar case happened 10 years ago in Spain(where my mother is from). I was visited by two ladies who asked me for money for some public event they did. They told me that my grandparents had given money in the past to them. I refused because I remembered that these ladies were from a now defunct far right female group which has refused to accept my mother in their circle because she was not Spanish(she married an Irish man and, at the time, women lost their nationality if so). I reminded them that, not only my mother was not accepted for such a trivial thing, but also that my father-in-law was Greek Orthodox, which prevented me from joining.
They confirmed this point, because the new organisation was strict on families not 100% Spanish and Catholic but that I have to understand that it was for the sake of fatherland and family honour and that they, as a NGO, were free to set rules. And I said that it's ok for them to do so but that they should be consequent and don't ask me for money. Because I, as another private personna, was completely free not to give them money and that I could do so for the sake of charity and empathy. Or what's now?, am I not good enough for joining them but am for giving them money?
@#345383 - The LDS are very big into Scouting. So much so that they are providing a huge percentage of the organization's money and units.
Here's a PDF that the BSA themselves publish on "Organizing a Unit at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints ". In the PDF, it says the LDS have over 25000 units. More recent numbers show more than 30,000. The total number of units in the BSA was about 122,500 at the end of 2005. While not a majority, that's about 25%. There are even LDS-specific awards.
"In 1913, Scouting officially became a part of the Church programthe first religious organization to integrate Scouting on a national level. Since that time, the Church has enjoyed a continuous, strong relationship with the Boy Scouts of America."
From Wikipedia ( Boy Scouts of America membership controversies ): "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), a longtime supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, teaches that homosexual activity is immoral and sinful. The LDS Church is the largest single sponsor of Scouting units with over 30,000 units nationwide, which comprise about 13% of BSA's youth members. The LDS Church has stated that it would withdraw from the Scouting program if it was ever compelled to accept openly homosexual Scout leaders."
From another BSA page : "Please remember that we have over 90 years as members of the Boy Scouts of America, plus we are the largest sponsor of Scouting nationwide - - both units (34,359) and membership (399,260). Find ways of celebrating our significant involvement in Scouting."
And, of course, teh gheys you hate so much could never be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent in every other manner too. Oh, no no no...
Any organization that refuses some people on "moral" grounds and then complains about subsequently losing their special privileges is not trustworthy, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, or brave in any manner. I seriously doubt their acquaintance with any of those other "virtues", too.
All the Boy Scouts of America seem to be about these days is allowing some sanctimonious little pricks to give themselves airs at everyone else's expense. It must be great to be so much better than all your classmates... especially the homosexual ones!
Brother-on-brother love would be incest. What about girl-on-girl "action", Mikey? Would that make you "cheerful"?
If you don't approve of human rights for everyone, you have failed being helpful, friendly, courteous, kind and brave. Hatred is not the strong point, but the weak one. Cowardly people hate, brave people love, and fight for other people's right to love.
The BSA is so desperate to be homophobic that they "sacrifice" a ridiculously low rent, rather than letting in gay people. When cities treat political organizations as political organizations, the end of bigotry surely must be drawing near (one can dream...).
The acceptance of homosexuality, or just plain not constantly demonizing it, is only dependant on goverment funding. Ya wanna make the entire Boy Scout Agencies free of these restrictions, refuse taxpayer support, I'm sure the churchs will pick up the tab (snicker).
Why do they get goverment funding anyway? I mean, way to expose your "raising independant, resourceful and hardworking" mantra for the joke it is. Welfare camping for the underprivilage, they're damn near camping at home.
I never saw why something that one out of what? One out of 50 to 80 kids needs to be taxpayer subsidized to play forest ranger. Worse, taxpayer subsidized to be exposed to creepy men of all ages who enjoy having a bunch of young boys over for a sleepover. Y'all got on Micheal Jackson for that exact same desire.
Ok, OK, I know all scout leaders aren't pedofiles, but some are, it's always, like minor leauge sports, teaching and the priesthood, gonna attract pedofiles.
Confused?
