This is why many of us opposed homosexual “marriage” in the first place. It wasn’t about what consenting adults do in private or even who people spend their lives with. It was about the normalization/legitimization of homosexuality and the subsequent and ongoing war against opposing views. When government says two homoesexuals can marry, for example, that marriage has to be treated as entirely normal in all aspects.
We already surrendered religious freedom, free speech, and freedom of association in the civil rights era (for an arguably worthy cause—elimination of institutionalized racism), and legal homosexual “marriage” allows the homosexualists to use those same mechanisms to drive opposing thought/speech from the public sphere. In other words, the legal framework to oppress Christians was already in place.
You may be allowed to practice your faith in private—maybe.

Those other words being 'Romans 13:1-5'.
Hurricane Irma really went Biblical on The Castro in Los Angeles, didn't it...?! [/Doug Piranha-levels of sarcasm]
You now know the only one to blame for your woes. The only alternative is for all you right-wing Fundamental ist Christains to become Atheists .
It's one way to get revenge on your 'God', for allowing S-SM to become legal. Question: In whose 'Word' does Romans 13:1-5 appear? Because I'm sure it's not in "A Brief History of Time", "The God Delusion" or "On the Origin of Species", least of all any tomes used by Satanists.
"You may be allowed to practice your faith in privatemaybe."
And gays are allowed to celebrate their marriage. Unless you were invited on the honeymoon, it's not any of your business who marries whom. Every single one of us knows people who married "the wrong person", couples who have married and divorced before you got your address book updated, and liars, thieves, or adulterers who marry without the church sticking its nose in. I'll bet you don't even know any married gays personally: am I right? Yet you have yourself in a snit about something that's none of your business, and doesn't affect you in any way.
Repeat after me: "it's not about me". Now back off and don't be an asshole.
Oh, so it's Ok to eliminate institutionalized racism, but it's your Christian right to be a sanctimonious homophobic prat? You're not oppressed, that's those "homoesexuals"(a Dan Quayle spelling)under the old legal framework, who want only to be treated like fellow Homo Sapiens.
Maybe it's religion that should be practiced only by consenting adults in private.
So it WAS about what consenting adults do in private and who people spend their lives with? You just wanted to wrap it up in slightly less stupid-sounding words?
Yup, a married adult couple should be treated as a married adult couple.
No, you have both religious freedom, free speech and freedom of association. Have you been forced to join a particular religion? Have you been put in jail because of what you've said? (Inciting violence or spewing hatred are not included in free speech; with rights come responsibilities, ya know.) Have you been forced to join or leave a particular group? I'd guess the answer is "No" to all those questions. You have just been forced to accept that others have the same rights that you take for granted. To the privileged (like you), equality feels like oppression.
Legal homosexual marriage is also an arguably worthy cause, idiot; the elimination of institutionalized discrimination.
Homosexualists? Do you have to make EVERYTHING into an -ist?
Let's call you a stupidist, then.
You ARE allowed to practice your faith in private, which is how Jesus told you to do it, dolt. When you go out in public, you have to respect other people also wanting to practice their faith (or lack thereof).
If your faith is built on bigotry rather than, you know, a philosophy of enlightenment or the teachings of a divine being, then I question calling it faith. It's an excuse you use for being an asshole. And if it were to be taken away tomorrow, erased from your mind as though it never were, you would just find a new excuse.
It's not your faith that's the problem. It's not you practicing a religion. It's the fact that you hide behind it to cover your bigoted bullshit.
"We already surrendered religious freedom, free speech, and freedom of association in the civil rights era..."
Damn them there darkies for wanting the rights guaranteed to them under the Constitution.
“When government says two homoesexuals can marry, for example, that marriage has to be treated as entirely normal in all aspects.”
It’s been legal in Masschusetts for 20 fucking years and y’all haven’t shut up about it once.
You’ve lost no rights, freedoms or privileges. You still can’t be foreced to celebrate a gay marriage in your church, and you do have the right to say it’s a sin.
“In other words, the legal framework to oppress Christians was already in place.”
You don’t have the right to discriminate against protected groups like samesex couples or their marriage, but taking away your right to oppress others is a mightly low threshold for oppression against you.
Grow up and join the secular nation you are a citizen of, you self-righteous, racist, bigoted fuckstain.
Confused?
