At this point, I would ask the reader to do a little exercise. If you have one, take a complete concordance, such as Strong's or Young's, and look up all the occurances of the word "love" and it's derivities in the Bible. There aren't that many and it should only take you an hour or so to read all of the verses. You will notice some very startling things, which we shall observe here, also as we proceed.
We have rather badly misunderstood what the love of God is and to whom it is shown. We have told ourselves, our friends and, most particularly, our children that God wants us to be happy, to feel good, to have positive experiences. This borders upon blasphemy! We have believed and taught that God loves everybody and wants all to be saved. Some have taken this to the point where they deny that God could ever destroy anyone. They teach that God does not kill, nor hate. Some of them teach that eventually, all will be saved because God loves them too much to see any lost. Lord, forgive our insolence.

"And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!
But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money!"
-George Carlin
"derivities"?
LOL.
"We have told ourselves, our friends and, most particularly, our children that God wants us to be happy, to feel good, to have positive experiences. This borders upon blasphemy!"
Good to know. So why should we want to worship a God who could care less about what we want and merely wants us to praise him at hell-point? If he is just essentially a dictator saying that he knows better than us, and uses that as an excuse to quash the mildest of dissent with excessive force and to have even those in good standing with no assurances of his existence and no promises of safety. I think I am better off with Zeus...at least he knows how to have some fun.
"
This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." - 1 Tim 2: 3, 4
You fail at your own Bible.
...neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the LOVE of God...
Romans 8: 38-39
YOU FAIL!

"[L]ook up all the occurances of the word "love" and it's derivities in the Bible. There aren't that many"
Depending on your edition, there are around 700 instances of the word 'love' alone.
My favourite is 1-Peter 4:8, "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins."
(Although perhaps more attention ought to be given to the preceding verse, which starts "The end of all things is near..." and was written sometime in the 1st century AD!)
God does not kill, nor hate
A quick search (with wildcards to get the derivatives - note the spelling) gave these results.
(kill*)
occurs 225 times in 209 verses in the KJV
(slay*)
occurs 148 times in 142 verses in the KJV
I haven't checked for the context of them all but it's a safe bet that you know who is either doing the killing or telling someone else to do it in most of them.
So, your god is rude, evil, mean, cruel and rejects 99.99999% of the human population.
Believe me, there was no misunderstanding.
Dude, your God sounds like a real psychopathic, selfish prick.
I'm sure we don't worship the same God.
Checking the source page, it's basically an argument in favor of predestination. What makes this spectacularly worrisome is this bit at the end:
"Like His other attributes, the love of God is a marvelous and wonderful thing. To think that, before time itself existed, God loved His chosen people and intended to show His grace on them is mind stretching at the least. If God's love is given to all, saved or lost, then He is trite. If His love is given to all so that all, no matter who they are, are saved, than His love is cheap. No, His love is a most precious commodity and should be held in the highest regard by those upon whom it is showered."
So, they think that the only way for God's love to be valuable/precious/etc. is for some to be pre-ordained, with no chance of appeal or reversal, to eternal perdition? Since when does love become nonsensical without horror as a contrast?!
I love hate. Oh, crap, does that love mean God hates me? But hate is love because hate is God's way of showing his love for us...I'm so confused. Does God love me or hate me...or both?
Look, to get more to the point, I really dislike this co-worker of mine, but want to treat her like the good Christian I should be. Should I practice my god-like Christian hate by inviting her to a romantic candlelight dinner at my place and then greet her with Christian love in the form of a baseball bat to the skull?
BTW are there any Bible passages that proscribe the orthodox disposal of bodies?
George Carlin described god perfectly.
If you study the bible absolutley, god loves himself and his power alone, and only exists because you believe it so.
I wasted 51 of my 72 years believeing as you do, and hope for your sake you get out of the quicksand of fundamentalism.
Sorry to break you hear, isn´t it in the Gospel?, you know, Jesus hanging out with sinners TO WIN THEM TO HIS CAUSE?
Confused?
