atheists sure seem to fear that ole wager of Paschal (even though it isnt an airtight logical theorem, it is still a wager and a compelling one at that! that's why there are very very few atheists in foxholes and thats why about 95% or so of people on their death beds hedge their bets in favor of theism!

Where are you getting your death bed statistics? Death Bed Quarterly? The New England Journal of Death Bed Confessions? Or maybe just your own imagination?
Its hilarious how timex implies that the next best thing to an "airtight logical theorem" is a wager. On that note, I don't have any airtight logical argument proving that timex is a dumbass, but I would be wager he or she is.
In your face, maker of cheap watches!
Is this an actual argument or a DBZ-style Witnessing Cliche Fusion?
Pascal's wager is a roulette wheel, and it's quite likely that nobody CAN truly know which number the ball will fall on.
I was hoping people would stop using this old canard.
You're right. It's better to have faith, than be wrong and face a pissed off deity in the afterlife.
TAKE ME NOW, THOR!
Wait, what do you mean "not what you meant?"
"atheists sure seem to fear that ole wager of Paschal"
No, we don't, because it's been refuted a thousand times.
I would wager that a large percentage of professed christians don't really believe their prayers will be answered, don't really believe in "heaven" or "hell", don't really believe what their pastors tell them in church, unless it agrees with their own worldview. I could go on, but you get the picture.
Why do you use the word Theism when you mean Christianity?
See if you do Pascals wager as "If there is A GOD, your safe but if there isn't A GOD then you'll suffer" then it allows for any God. Christians get there logic shorted-out on the wager because they assume there is only one God, theirs, and automatically set themselves up as winner. Big surprize, they like easy questions.
But there are many Gods and the Biblical one still has no more proof than any.
“atheists sure seem to fear that ole wager of Paschal”
Yes, yes, moaning ‘On, not this PRATT again’ is the same as fearing the monster under the bed.
Uh huh.
“(even though it isnt an airtight logical theorem, it is still a wager and a compelling one at that!”
No, not at all compelling. It only works on people who’ve already decided there’s only one God.
“that's why there are very very few atheists in foxholes”
Oh, cool. So a fear response is more compelling than a rational decision, huh?
Still, there are plenty of atheists who have faced death and NOT broken out praying. Me, for one.
"and thats why about 95% or so of people on their death beds hedge their bets in favor of theism!”
Citatoin desperately needed.
So, what have you got? Frightened People and people rationalizing the decision they’ve already made? Got any argument for an atheist?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
