Sunni leader Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musalyar (head of one of the traditionalist Sunni Muslims in Kerala, India) has reportedly confirmed that worst expectations of women and civil liberties advocates in India with recent comments calling the concept of gender equality “un-Islamic” and saying that women could never equal men as “they are fit only to deliver children.” It is a chilling reminder of the intense prejudices and oppression faced by women in many traditional Islamic areas.
Musalyar, 76, the chief of All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama, insisted at a camp of Muslim Students Federation (MSF) in Kozhikode that women lack the mental strength and power to control the universe, “which lies in the hands of men.” Ignoring the advances in civilized countries, he predicted that “Gender equality is something which is never going to be a reality. It is against Islam, humanity and was intellectually wrong.”
He further added “Women can never equal men. They are fit only to deliver children. Women cannot withstand crisis situations.” He further denounced plans to allow girls and boys to share seats in colleges as “part of a calculated move to destroy Islam and culture.”

I'm all for people believing, or not, what they want to believe or what religion, if any, to follow. The only hard & fast rule that should be followed is and it harm none, do what you will . Your religious rights ends where someone else's rights begin.

If sitting together will "destroy Islam and culture", then your religion is weak and your faith in Allah is abysmal.
@Ivurm: Fundamentalists are much the same everywhere as far as I can tell, no matter what they call themselves. One of the things the frequently seem to have in common is a burning desire to annihilate everything in the world aside from themselves. From one point of view, locking them all in a room and letting them get on with it is a mercy.
At least for the rest of us.
@Wyzard: One of the things I have observed in fundies is that their faith is so fucking weak that literally anything can and will destroy it utterly, at least if you take them at their word.

Men have the power to control the universe? I thought that was Allah’s job? Is Musalyar sure that it isn’t him who is “un-Islamic”?

Isn’t it curious that it’s almost always men who know best what women can do and what not?

If that’s all it take to destroy them, then maybe “Islam and culture” isn’t very strong to begin with.
And wasn’t Mohammed’s wife a successful business woman in her own right before she even married him?
Kerala is 55% Hindu, 27% Muslim, and 18% Christian. It is well known for having the best education in India, and the best women's rights.
Probably why he is pissed off.
@Malingspann
A MEDIOCRE! one. :D
Otherwise, this guy just seems like a normal Muslim who follows normal Muslims beliefs.

"ISIS are brick-shittingly scared of them. They believe that being killed by Kurdish Female Fighters prevents them from entering Paradise. >:D"
Boy, will they be relieved to find out that there's no such place as paradise and nobody gets in! :-P

Aren't you the guy who always complains that FSTDT devotes too much attention to Christians when there are plenty of religious groups that do worse things? But now when the commenters do pay attention to them, you say that by doing so, they're excusing their behaviour. Make up your goddamn mind and learn some reading comprehension.
The trouble Islamics have wreaked is the exact same trouble Christians have wreaked.
Let's not forget this. I will never defend Islamic extremism, nor will even the most liberal of Afflecks BUT Christian extremism isn't shining against the second most prolific Abrahamic religion in any way, ESPECIALLY in America.
Jim Bob Dumbfuck makes up WAY TOO MUCH of "Real America" for even the rest of America.
Modern Muslims desperately need more agency, otherwise we'll keep getting idiots like this, who claim to speak for Islam, which is impossible no matter how you look at it. Unfortunately, most Muslims can't speak up or exert any control of their own religion because they either don't know how or would be killed for doing so.
It's really no different than how the Midevil Catholic Church operated, and it took a lot to shake off their monopolisation of the faith.

This is why infidels have all the power and prestige while islam rules third world hellholes.
Your ways are being outmoded in most of the world outside your disgusting little huts and insular villages.
You can either adapt, or turn terrorist, in which case, Barack Obama has a gift in the mail for you.
Its a drone.

Gasp! The ConservAnon actually responded to me! Anyway:
1. It's not a matter of 'Criticise Christians; criticise Muslims by comparing them to Christians'. What's happening is that every misogynist group is frequently compared to every other misogynist group - look at the number of comments suggesting David J. Stewart should convert to Islam, or suggesting that MRAs move to the Middle East. The comparisons are slightly more likely on Muslim quotes because less are submitted, so it's easier to discuss them by comparing them to 'normal' FSTDT quotes.
2. Saying that X is just as bad as Y means that any criticism of Y is applied implicitly to X.
3. The statement that fundamentalist Muslims are just as bad as fundamentalist Christians is a rebuttal to a common argument seen on this site that Islam is somehow the 'worst' religion. As such, when evidence useful for that rebuttal appears, it's entirely valid to point this out.
4. Plenty of people have criticised him without bringing up Christianity at all. What makes them less harsh?
5. While populations of Islamic fundamentalists have a worse track record in treatment of women, that's because many of them live in countries where they can get away with it, while most of the MRAs and Christian fundamentalist quoted on the site live in countries where they would face strict legal penalties if they tried to carry out the things they want to do. In terms of ideology towards women, they're all equally bad, and this site has plenty of quotes to prove that.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
